從「菊花夜行軍」到「臨暗」、「種樹」專輯，林生祥與詩人鍾永豐的作品，其探討主題一貫緊扣於台灣農村，歌中主人翁形象鮮活，或為返鄉青年、或為都市開基祖，島國農業大崩壞時代下的小卒子，在鄉與城的推拉撕扯之間，各人肩住自家命運，各有其茫然與篤定。前後專輯所累積之群像故事，有如共構出微型「史歌」（詩而為歌，歌以為記），呈顯台灣農村與農業發展真貌。 「野生」亦循此一脈絡深入，且試圖以新視角提出舊議題──相較於因政策不公與結構失衡而導致的農業問題，「野生」所聚焦的「女性」命運，揭示之「重男輕女」文化現象，更為古老地存在傳
