Director Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ breathed new life into the superhero movie genre after a rough few years towards the end of the 1990s. Many would say, in fact, that his 2002 ‘Spider-Man’ was the kickoff point to the kinds movies that would make comic book flicks the box office powerhouses they are today. The movie starred Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Willem Dafoe, and was full of action and spectacle, but at its heart was a tender and relatable romance between Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ, the girl of his dreams. In the movie’s most beloved – and most parodied – moment, Maguire and Dunst share a kiss, with Spidey hanging upside-down and a heavy downpour of rain drenching them.
