Top Gun: Maverick is crushing it at the box office, and for a lot of people -- us, included -- it's a refreshing return to an era of filmmaking that featured a compelling cast of diverse characters, awesome action, and good storytelling *without* feeling like a two-hour lecture on 2022 gender and racial politics.
