Remember those 45's you bought at the ‘Mom & Pop’ record stores, or perhaps it was at the large retail chain outlet. In any event you watched the charts and couldn't wait to purchase those hit singles. In some cases, it was the vendor behind the counter that dropped the needle on a track you've never heard before and you had to have it. This is an ode to shopping for those singles the way that we used to.

I invite you to join me as we celebrate the life and music of Barry White. He was known as the Maestro of Love, the King of Baby Making Music, one of the architects of disco. He was all these things and more. For me this is a personal story of how his music influenced my life and tastes growing up. I wore out the grooves on my records as I played his music over and over again.

Welcome my BMS Listeners.
In my opinion 1984 was one of the most dynamic and bountiful years for music.
Top line artists were bigger than ever or achieved their most successful year to date.
Artist such as Prince, The Jacksons, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner and the
list goes on. It was also the year for successful soundtracks to blockbuster movies including
Beverly Hills Cop, Purple Rain, Flashdance, Ghostbusters, Breakin’, and others.
For me it was a time of exploration of my young adulthood and soaking in everything that life
had to offer.
Let’s reflect back on big hair, shoulder pads, and reminisce about a time that feels so long ago.

In celebration of our 10th anniversary, I thought it would be fun to go back to episode 1.
The very first episode was posted on October 12th, 2012. I had no idea what podcasting exactly was at the time but I had a strong urge to explore this new medium.
Well needless to say I never thought that I would still be doing this for these many years. Ten years later and over 3000 songs played, I am still loving sharing the gift of music.
A special thanks to all the BMS Listeners all over the world that have supported me with your time and kind words.
Hoping we will never forget when music was Music!

Boogie Nights!
Before today's high-tech era, discotheques in North America and Europe just spun tunes on dual turntables. Mixers were rare if at all – it was simply transitioning from phono 1 to phono 2. This collection is for the polyester, afros, high-heeled wedges, and the love of dancing under the lights. For Toronto, it was clubs like Floating World, Space, Checkers, and Coleman’s just to name a few.
From Manhattan to Munich we were doing the Bump, The Point, and the Freak all night long.
Let DJ Rhythm Dee take you back to an innocent (well not so innocent) time as we remember when music was Music.

BMS Oh Canada!
BMS 10th Year Anniversary!
During this segment of BMS you will hear a selection of tracks from the Canadian Urban Music scene released over the years. Some of these recordings were from major label signings while others were released and promoted independently. Canada like many countries has a vibrant music scene but, to make it in the “music business” (10% Music/90% Business) has always been a struggle for most. Persistence, talent, timing, and plain old fashion luck have always seemed to be the key factors to success.
This is just a tiny slice of the struggle over the past couple of decades. From hip hop to reggae, these are artists that I have either personally worked with, crossed paths with, or admired from afar. Many (too much to mention) have come before them to pave a path to breaking rhythm-based music into the mainstream. I would like to thank all the musicians, writers, promoters, mom & pop retailers, and the independent media that all played a part in trying to get to the next level.

Welcome to another special feature where I will be focusing once more on Rick James and his Punk-Funk All-Stars.
R.J. was definitely one of my musical heroes during my youth and I pay homage to his music, production, and inspiration. The Rick James experience wouldn’t be complete without highlighting such groups as The Stone City Band, Teena Marie, The Mary Jane Girls, and others.
I encourage you to pay attention to the song selections and lyrics as they really do tell his story.
