“I felt the plane drop”: Passenger recalls moment door blown open on Alaska Airlines flight

Alaska Airlines has said it will ground its fleet of Boeing 737 Max-9 jets after a portion of the aircraft’s fuselage — believed to be an unused door — blew out shortly after take-off in Portland, Oregon on Friday evening.

Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, which had 171 passengers and six crew members onboard, suffered a midair pressure problem during the climb phase after departing at 5.06pm local time and was forced to make an emergency landing back at Portland International Airport about 20 minutes later.

The aircraft returned safely “after the crew reported a pressurisation issue”, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.
