In the latest update from Euro NCAP, safety ratings for eleven vehicles were announced. These include the Volkswagen ID.7, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-EQ EQE SUV, BYD TANG, Kia EV9, XPENG G9, VinFast VF8, smart #3, BYD SEAL-U, Honda ZR-V, and Hyundai KONA. Notably, many of these vehicles are electric (EVs), aligning with environmental goals, particularly relevant as the world prepares for COP28.

However, a concerning trend is emerging. The popularity of heavier, more powerful, and taller vehicles is rising. Such cars pose increased risks to other road users and have a negative environmental impact. Among the eleven new cars evaluated, only three have a weight under two tonnes. The smart #3 stands out as the only small family car in this batch.

The surge in EV demand has paved the way for new players in the European market. This year's tests included several vehicles from Chinese manufacturers, keen to establish their presence in Europe. Additionally, for the first time, a car from Vietnam was part of the Euro NCAP assessment.

On a brighter note, both new and established manufacturers seem to be adapting well to the Euro NCAP's latest safety standards, which were introduced at the start of the year. Impressively, eight out of the eleven cars tested achieved a five-star safety rating.
