US and UK fighter jets hit Houthi targets!
US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that Australia has joined the strikes launched in response to the Iranian-backed group's continued blockade of international shipping lanes in the Red Sea in support of Palestine.
"Today, at my direction, U.S. military forces - along with the United Kingdom and with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands - launched successful strikes on a series of targets in Yemen used by Houthi rebels to jeopardise freedom of navigation on one of the world's most vital waterways," Biden said in a statement.
"These strikes are a direct response to the unprecedented attacks carried out by the Houthis against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea, including anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history," Biden said. He said.
More than a dozen locations were targeted and the strikes were intended to be more than symbolic.
An official US statement detailing the strikes was expected soon. The Pentagon declined to comment. Earlier on Thursday, the Houthi leader said that any US attack on the group would not go unanswered. Most recently, US and UK jets have heavily bombed Houthi targets.
