The European Union has fined Apple nearly $3 billion for limiting competing music streaming services.

The European Commission charged the tech giant over preventing aspects of streaming service Spotify.

The American company is accused of curbing information to its users of payment options external to its exclusive Apple app store.

Apple's basic penalty of $60 million was inflated to almost $3 billion by the EU.

The increase was to deter future repetition of market abuse and anti-trust violations.
