Each year the Met chooses a theme for its Costume Institute's spring exhibit, and this year it's a celebration of German designer Karl Lagerfeld. The theme has sparked debate as Lagerfeld was a leader and innovator in fashion at Fendi and Chanel, but also made many controversial comments about everything from immigrants to MeToo to curvy bodies.
