American Superconductor stock - or AMSC stock - soared on the back of news that some researchers out of South Korea invented a material that demonstrates superconductivity (no resistance to electricity) at room temperature and ambient pressure. That claim hasn't been formally validated yet. Even if it were to be, they still haven't proven the material can be produced in a cost-effective manner and turned into commercially viable devices. Not to mention, this could be simple a step towards a breakthrough in the future, which raises the question of intellectual property, which is yet another unknown that's pointless to pursue. For those investors who think $AMSC is at the forefront of this work, think again. The only relationship between the two is a) the name (what all the degens latch onto) and b) the fact that AMSC transmits power and could benefit from the breakthrough, or be made obsolete. We just don't know enough yet. Competent investors know there's just one thing to do right now. Hurry up and wait.
