There are many inexpensive day trips in Japan. This time, our staff tried to see how much fun they could have in the popular tourist destinations of Osaka and Hokkaido for 10,000 yen, roughly 67 US dollars. First, we purchased a 7,200 yen round-trip ticket from Narita to Osaka with the low-cost airline Peach. At the popular spot of Dotonbori, there was a huge line for "kani manju," a manju (a type of bun) made with crab. Also, there were lines at every Takoyaki (grilled octopus balls)store. The staff chose four kinds of takoyaki, including "Odori Takoyaki" (dancing takoyaki). After that, a local person recommended the "Tower Slider," a popular attraction at Tsutenkaku, another famous sightseeing spot in Osaka. Many people enjoyed the thrilling experience.
Next, we went to Hokkaido. The round-trip fare from Narita to Sapporo is 8,300 yen. We immediately went to Nijo Market, a popular local market. The staff also tasted the famous crabs that were lined up. At the popular crab restaurant "Kanikousen," we tucked into "Teppojiru," a fisherman's dish containing crab legs and green onions. They also tried their hand at wakasagi (Japanese smelt) fishing for the first time. They were served freshly fried tempura. Returning to Sapporo, we also enjoyed thick "top rank lamb meat" at Daruma 5.5, a famous BBQ lamb hotpot restaurant. So, can you guess how much these one-day trips each cost?
