The 1922 French Grand Prix

The most prestigious race of the era, the Grand Prix of the French Automobile Club, was held on July 16, 1922. The race ran on public roads on a circuit near Strasbourg, France measuring in at roughly 8.5 miles. The drivers had to complete a total of 60 laps to finish. During the race, driver Biaggio Nazzaro lost control of his car after losing a rear wheel, and the ensuing crash took his life as well as his mechanic who was also in the car. Race winner, Felice Nazzaro, Biaggio’s uncle was quoted as saying, "Today nobody won, only death won." Felice Nazzaro, in his Fiat 804, won the race with over an hour between himself and the second-place finisher Pierre de Vizcaya in a Bugatti T30.
