Shiweitang Railway Station, located in Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, is a third-class station under the jurisdiction of China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
Construction started in November 1901, and it was completed and put into use in September 1903. The site is located on Shiweitang Road, Fangcun, Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is now a third-class station, the starting point of the Guangzhou-Sanshui Railway, 49 kilometers away from Sanshui West Station.
At the beginning of its construction, the station only provided passenger transportation and did not handle cargo consignment. Since there was no bridge between Shiweitang and the urban area, passengers entering and leaving the station could only walk directly into the wharf along the station’s shelter from the sun and rain, and cross the river. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, in order to prevent the Japanese army from using the railway, the workers removed one of the double tracks from Shiweitang Station to Foshan Station during overnight construction; the entire section of the track from Foshan Station to Sanshui Station was demolished. In September of the 35th year of the Republic of China (1946), the whole line was reopened to traffic. During the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the Shiweitang Station also launched a struggle to protect the factory and roads. Some workers also dismantled the machinery of the river-crossing ship to prevent the Kuomintang troops from fleeing.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Guangzhou-Sanlu Railway has become the only land passage connecting Guangzhou and Foshan, and the passenger transportation business of Shiweitang Station has become increasingly developed. During the Spring Festival, there can be up to 44 trains per day, and the highest passenger flow is nearly 80,000 passengers a day. The operating hours of the station are from the first train at 5:30 in the morning to the last train at 9:30 in the evening. Since 1955, Shiweitang Station began to run freight. In 1960, the Pearl River Bridge, a bridge for both road and railway, was completed and opened to traffic. The starting point of the Guangzhou-Sanzhou Railway was extended to Dashatou Railway Station, and the Shiweitang Station was gradually transformed from a main railway passenger station to a freight station. Station to stop handling passenger services
The existing Shiweitang station has been rebuilt many times, many old buildings no longer exist, and the iconic steam locomotive water tower was demolished in 2002. The bronze statue that Sun Yat-sen ordered to be built in Shiweitang Square to commemorate Xia Zhongmin, the head of the Guang-San Railway Bureau, who was killed by Chen Jiongming, has also been destroyed. Only a few century-old buildings remain intact in the station: an 80-meter-long platform with a steel-framed fishbone roof, a railroad track with turnout lights and end warning signs, and the then director of the station, built in 1922. The residence and the residence of the director at that time, the "Octagon Building" of the Guangsan Railway Villa.
At the same time, Shiweitang Station has also become a nostalgic location for photography enthusiasts in Guangzhou. Almost every month, film studios and TV crews come to this station to shoot.
