Rip Craig breen Last video before Died on youtube | He Knew it
Driver Craig Breen from Ireland lost his life in an accident at a practice run before this weekend's Croatia Rally.
The incident involving the Waterford man was announced at around 11:00 BST on Thursday by the 33-year-Hyundai old's Motorsport squad.
James Fulton, Breen's co-driver, escaped the collision unscathed.
Hyundai Motorsport expressed its profound sympathies to Craig's family, friends, and large following in a statement.
After working for M-Sport Ford World Rally for a year, Breen has returned to Hyundai on a part-time basis for the next WRC season.
At Rally Sweden in February, the Waterford man came in second place to Ott Tanak in his first WRC start of the year. This was his sixth second-place result in a WRC rally.
Breen was slated to make his second WRC debut in Croatia this season while sharing the third Hyundai with Spaniard Dani Sordo.
Astonished and grieved, the WRC family
The WRC tweeted that it was "shocked and saddened" to learn of Craig Breen's passing. In this extraordinarily sad time, our hearts go out to Craig's family and friends.
Breen, whose father Ray was an Irish champion, started out in karting before transitioning to rallying full-time in 2009.
He joined the WRC Academy in 2011 and, after rising through the junior and WRC2 divisions, drove in a few WRC races for the Abu Dhabi Total World Rally team.
One among those paying respects to Breen was current WRC champion Kalle Rovanpera, who said, "Rest in peace Craig. Your family and friends are in my thoughts this evening.
Craig was the most passionate person I know, according to Kris Meeke of Northern Ireland, a former WRC competitor. His passion for motorsport, which dominated his entire life and gave him the motivation to reach the pinnacle of his career, was contagious.
The rallying community has lost one of its brightest stars today, and the world needed people like Craig. I still find it difficult to express how I feel about this.
The family and friends of the deceased driver received condolences from FIA President Mohamed Ben Sulayem.
The FIA president expressed, "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family ones and the Rally community at this terrible moment.
The president of Motorsport Ireland, Aiden Harper, stated that the Irish motorsports community was "numbed by this awful news."
He added of Craig, "He was a world-class man and a world-class driver."
Breen never lost sight of his Irish heritage, and according to a statement from Motorsport Ireland, he never stops giving rallying aspirants opportunities.
The statement said, "He visited a J1000 tuition day just last Tuesday where 18 young drivers got to meet and learn from their hero.
"Breen's appeal drew people in closer to organizing,"
Craig Breen wasn't just any rally driver; he was a person who had the sport ingrained in every cell of his body. Not only for Irish rallying but for racing in general, he was a shining example.
His charm attracted people to the sport he adored and his enthusiasm for rallying was contagious.
He had exceptional potential, as seen by his podium finish, and it is terrible and tragic that we will never see him stand at the top of the podium when it seemed only a matter of time.
Outside of the WRC, he won the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship, and his work with young drivers will ensure that his legacy will live on forever.
In an incident in Italy in 2012, he lost Gareth Roberts, a close friend, and co-driver. 'Jaffa,' as he was affectionately known, was never far from Breen's mind as he ascended the rallying ladder.
Breen had a wide grin and a sharp tongue. He was one of the nicest athletes there was. Rallies won't be the same ever again.
