Hong Kong was hit by a record-breaking rainstorm from 2023/09/07 to 09/08 which caused a lot of flooding reports. Some MTR stations needed to close some of their exits and a few even were damaged by flooding. Part of Kowloon Tong was temporarily closed and Wong Tai Sin was closed all day to split the Kwun Tong Line in 2. The closure of East Rail Line Platform 2 of Kowloon Tong Station caused trains heading in both directions to only use Platform 2 with reduced service. This also means that trains can only use a single track to run between Kowloon Tong and Mong Kok East. And that also leads to a special arrangement at Mong Kok East where trains pass each other. At the same time, trains to and from Lok Ma Chau only terminate at Fo Tan with reduced services as well. The platform was resumed after 4 hours of temporary closure.

香港在2023年9月7至8日遇上百年一遇的雨災，黑雨警告維持時間更加破紀錄。期間，暴雨導致香港多處發生水浸，部分水浸更影響港鐵車站，部分車站需要關閉部分出口，有些車站更遭到水浸破壞。其中東鐵綫九龍塘站需要暫時關閉2號月台，觀塘綫黃大仙站更加關閉整日。東鐵綫九龍塘站關閉1號月台令兩個方向的列車都要使用2號月台，班次大幅減少，同時列車只能單線雙程行車來往九龍塘及旺角東，也令旺角東出現一個特別安排，旺角東成為列車的交匯地點。此外，落馬洲班次只行駛至火炭站，班次也大幅減少。九龍塘站在4小時後修復完畢，恢復全線行車。
