Hello Gift Of Homeschooling Family!
In this episode I share some simple tips to help you create a vision for your homeschool journey. As I've shared with you in the past, it is critically important that you take the time to carve out a vision for your homeschooling, because as Proverbs teaches us - without a vision, people fail.
As promised, I've attached a copy of my own personal vision for homeschooling that has been the guiding post for our homeschooling journey. I hope this will inspire you to create your own. https://homeschoolvision.tiiny.site
I want to remind you that if some days you're frustrated because things do not go as planned, guess what - You're Not alone. On your homeschool journey, there are going to be many days when you feel like you did not hit the mark. As with everything in life, you will have these days.
But let me, a 16-year homeschool veteran mommy , be the first to tell you - when this happens, It Is Okay, we've all been there.
My goal is to INSPIRE AND MOTIVATE you on your homeschool journey while equipping you with simple, practical, and actional tips and advice I have garnered over my 16 years of Homeschooling to help you avoid the pitfalls I encountered early on in our family's homeschool journey.
Remember that you're not alone, even if it feels like it sometimes. If you're a fellow homeschooling parent, you belong here. This is your space!
Together, we will make sure that you have the best, the most successful LONG-TERM homeschool experience ever. Because I truly believe that it is only after sticking with it long-term that you can truly experience the true Gift of Homeschooling!

In this episode, I wanted to remind us that what is coming out of our mouths is so important as what our children hear continuously will eventually plant seeds in their heads. One way to make sure that what they are hearing is positive and uplifting is to start the day with positive affirmations. Following is a snip-it of positive affirmations that we recite together before we start the school day. Take some time to come up wit your own list, and watch as over the years the seeds of positivity are planted and watered in your children's life.
Sample Positive Affirmations as excerpted from the Ott's Daily Homeschool Affirmations:
I am Happy
I am Strong
I am a child of God, who is love
If I can do it, I can Achieve it
I can do anything I put my mind to
I am strong
I am powerful
I am fearless - this doesn't mean I don't have any fears, but when I have one I face it and break right through it
I am kind
I am loving......
Feel free to use some of these, add or subtract as you feel comfortable, or just come up with a list that works for you and your family. The important thing is to get this started as a regular habit in your daily homeschooling routine, and watch how these words will take root in your children's life.
Remember that You've Got This, and that together we'll make sure that you have the BEST homeschooling experience EVER!
Sometimes we all need to hit the re-set button because we realize that the schedule our routine is not working. Reminding you all today, that no matter where you are in your homeschool journey, it is always okay to hit the re-set button, as this quote by Jon Acuff reminds us:
You Don't Need to go back in time to be awesome; you just have to start right now!

Take this time to enjoy your family, and know that very soon you'll be back in the swing of things and back on track. For now, take the time to relax, and take things a little easier.
During this episode I just wanted to remind and encourage you all to give yourself the time and permission to "un-school" during the Holiday season, and allow yourselves to fully unwind and take a break from the day in and day out of Homeschooling.

Depending on what state you are in, you may be required to keep records. In this episode, I share very simple and practical advice about what we do to keep records here in our home. I am lucky to live in a state that does not require very much in terms of record-keeping, but as I have mentioned countless times, homeschool laws vary by state, so one of the most important things that you can do as a parent is find out what the record keeping requirements are in your state. Over the years, HSLDA has always been my go to for all things legal when it comes to homeschooling. So, if you are not aware of what the requirements are in your state, please make sure to visit this site to find out.

One of the beauties of homeschooling is that we as parents and educators get to customize our children's educational experience based on their own abilities and capabilities. This means that we can take advantage of being able to teach them at the grade level that they are truly meant to be at.

One of the subjects that most homeschooling parents are most concerned about teaching as their children get into the higher grades is math. One of the main questions that folks asked me when I made the decision to homeschool my children was - What about socialization? If this is something that you are wondering about, let me the the first and last one to put your mind at ease. Homeschooled children tend to be more well-rounded and socially confident that their peers. My personal experience confirms this, and you can check out this article from a Canadian study that also confirms this.

Setting the right mood is very important for a successful homeschool day. We have more control over that than you may think. In this episode I talk about what that means, and what you can do to set the right mood.
One of the things that we have done for years is starting the day with positive affirmations. As promised, here is just a tiny sample of our daily affirmations:
I am special
I am loved
I am a child of God who is love
If I can dream it, I can achieve it
I can do anything I put my mind to...........we go on for a few minutes, but you get the picture.
Go ahead and make create affirmations that is suitable for your family. I guarantee you it is an awesome way of setting the mood.

I think that many homeschooling parents think that in order to successfully homeschool their children, that they will need to know everything themselves. This is not true! This misconception simply leads to unnecessary stress. In this episode, I talk about why it is vitally important that you let go of this false perception and establish from the onset the fact that sometimes during the homeschool process it will be a joint-learning process, where the teacher and the student are learning together. There are great resources that can help you when you get struck and need that extra help to explain a topic that you yourself might not be strong in.
These two resources have been invaluable in our home:
https://mathantics.com/ great site for explaining math concepts in a fun easy understood manner
https://www.khanacademy.org/ is a great site for explaining any subject that you might need additional help with, plus it works as a full curriculum program as well.
I hope you find these helpful. Don't forget to email me should you have any questions at homeschools101@gmail.com

It is vitally important to set the right tone, especially if you intend to make homeschooling a long term commitment for your family. This means that your children should know that there is a separation between playtime and school time. This does not mean that there cannot be an element of playfulness surrounding the homeschool experience, but what it does mean is that from the very beginning you want to send the message to your children that there is a time and place for everything and that playtime is playtime and school time is school time. However, there are 3 key pieces of furniture that I found during my homeschooling journey that added and enhanced the homeschooling experience. I talk about those in this episode.
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/giftofhomeschooling/messageIf you are homeschooling Preschoolers and Kindergarten, my biggest piece of advice for you is - make this a fun and joyful experience for you and your child. These years are supposed to be about enjoying and exploring the world. SO take it easy, read to your child, cuddle up with your child/children on the couch with a good book, do simple puzzles together, go to the park, hang out in the backyard, play with playdoh, go the the library, zoo or museum, and don't take it too seriously! Take it from a veteran homeschooling mommy, you'll look back at these years when they are gone and wish you had taken my advise and did more of this. There will be a time and place for regimented, scheduled learning, NOW during the preschool and kindergarten years is not that time- just enjoy it!
If you're looking for ideas for books to read with your child, the following are just a few that we used and loved when the boys were in the Preschool/Kindergarten phase:

Another important aspect of the homeschooling experience, is making sure that you pick out a designated area in the house where schooling occurs. In this episode we talk about why this is important, and how you should pick out a designated place in the home for schooling.
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/giftofhomeschooling/messageAnother benefit and blessing of Homeschooling is the flexibility that you have to create a working schedule for your family. In this episode, I briefly address the issue of flexibility as it relates to homeschooling.
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/giftofhomeschooling/messageAs I mentioned last time, the schedule is the one of the most important aspects of a successful Homeschooling experience. However, none of us are immune to the upheavals of life, and sometimes things happen that we do not expect to happen - a child gets ill, someone passes away, there's an unforeseen emergency, etc.. the list goes on and on. It is important even before these things happen, to have the mindset that although the schedule is extremely important, we should not become prisoners of it. We need to understand from the very beginning that there will be times when due to circumstances, we have to amend our schedule or scrap it completely on certain days. And, guess what? That is totally okay. Things happen out of our control sometimes, and we may have to fall of of our schedule sometimes. The important thing is just to get back into the routine and scheduling of things as soon as we can.

Remember, you were born to do this. You've got this, and together we will ensure that you have the most successful and fulfilling homeschool experience.
Until next time!
To have the most successful Homeschooling experience, you will have to schedule your day to some extent.
Homeschooling should NOT take up your whole day. If you create a schedule you will be amazed at how much you can get done in the day , plus everyone will know what to expect.
I would advise that besides scheduling in schooling time, that you schedule in specific times in your child's schedule for things such as snack-time, PE, TV time etc...
After the teaching period is finished, it is important that Kids be provided with constructive, wholesome choices to choose from to occupy their time so that they are not left watching hours of mindless TV and media outside of the scheduled school time.
