一年過後，華沙的生活環境更加惡化。波蘭人進行了一次未成功的華沙起義，以致於華沙的人口急劇減少，使斯皮爾曼一次又一次地面臨死亡。後來，斯皮爾曼所居住的公寓遭到德軍坦克（疑似是三號戰車N型）襲擊，他不得不逃離。斯皮爾曼四處尋找食物和水源，最後在德軍的大本營裏找到了一罐腌制的黃瓜。由於沒有開罐工具，他使用鐵撬等工具試圖打開罐子，而巨大的聲音驚動了德國軍官威爾姆·歐森菲德，他認出斯皮爾曼是猶太人。在被問及職業時，斯皮爾曼說自己是一個鋼琴家，於是被要求演奏一曲。斯皮爾曼演奏了肖邦的第一號敘事曲，琴技使得歐森菲德無比驚訝。歐森菲德最後決定幫助斯皮爾曼躲藏，並定時給他提供生活必需品。

附近一個集中營被解放，但是歐森菲德上校和一些德國軍人被捉獲而成為戰俘。歐森菲德遇到一名猶太音樂人，乞求他聯系斯皮爾曼來幫助他，但這位猶太音樂人卻沒有聽清楚歐森菲德的名字就被俄軍士兵打斷。斯皮爾曼回到了華沙廣播電臺，當他聽到了歐森菲德的消息後，試圖回去尋找他卻未果。電影以斯皮爾曼在大型音樂會演奏肖邦的大波蘭舞曲而結束，字幕顯示斯皮爾曼於2000年在華沙去世，歐森菲德上尉則在1952年死於蘇聯的斯大林格勒勞改營。

"The Pianist" (English: The Pianist, Hong Kong translation "Piano War Song", Taiwan translation "Battlefield Pianist"), directed by Roman Polanski, takes Nazi Germany's invasion of Poland and the invasion of Warsaw as the background, mainly reflecting the experience of Polish Jews feature film. The film is based on the memoirs of Polish-Jewish composer and pianist Wladyslaw Spearman.
In 2002, "The Pianist" won the Palme d'Or, the highest honor at the Cannes Film Festival in France. In 2003, "The Pianist" won three Oscars, including Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Wladyslaw Spearman is a well-known Jewish-Polish pianist who works for the Warsaw Radio. Because of Nazi Germany's invasion of Poland, he has been separated from his family forever. In order to survive, he worked as a laborer at a construction site in Nazi Germany, and then fled the site to live in seclusion, receiving private help from some kind-hearted Poles.
Spearman hid many times, and was once discovered by a Polish woman that he was Jewish. Fortunately, he was able to escape in time, and then got help and relief from friends. During this time in hiding, he witnessed numerous atrocities in Nazi Germany, including mass slaughter and burning of corpses. Once in 1943, he witnessed the Jews who remained in the ghetto begin to resist, but were finally suppressed by the German army and carried out a massacre.
A year later, the living conditions in Warsaw have worsened. The Poles staged an unsuccessful Warsaw Uprising, so that Warsaw's population dwindled sharply, leaving Spearman facing death time and time again. Later, Spearman had to flee when his apartment was attacked by German tanks (suspected to be Type 3 Tank N). Spearman searched for food and water, and finally found a jar of pickled cucumbers in the German base camp. Since he did not have a jar opener, he tried to open the jar using tools such as a crowbar, and the loud noise alerted German officer Wilm Osenfeld, who recognized Spearman as a Jew. When asked about his career, Spearman said he was a pianist and was asked to play a piece. Spearman played Chopin's Ballade No. 1, which surprised Oceanfield. Oceanfield finally decided to help Spearman hide and provide him with necessities on a regular basis.
A few weeks later, the Red Army liberated Warsaw in a counteroffensive. When Spearman escaped from the attic where he was hiding, he was mistaken for a German soldier by the Red Army soldiers because he was wearing a German officer's coat given by Olsenfeld, but he was finally confirmed to be a Pole.
