Typically when we think about the fruits of the spirit, we think warm and fuzzy type of things. Atleast I always have!
"When I get the fruits of the spirit, it's going to be a good thing," we may think to ourselves.
Indeed it is good. But know that our version of good isn't God's version of good. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom, right? Yes, but what does freedom look like from heaven's perspective?

In a perfect world, we would all have husbands who are following God to a T. But this is real life and real life is often messy. Many of us have husbands who fall into the category UNSAVED or SAVED-BUT-NOT-LIVING-AS-HE-OUGHT TO.
(I would argue that being saved actually doesn't matter when it comes to why we fight with our husbands. We could have a husband who is saved who makes decisions that we don't like and we would still fight them).
Right?

I didn't even know this was a thing. Until I relooked at the acts of the flesh found in Galatians 5:19-21. Yup, selfish ambition is in there. It is indeed a sin.

As a believer in Christ, there is probably a part of you that believes that if you follow the Lord, things will go well for you. There is no shame in that—it is undeniably, 100% true and scripture is very clear on that.
But what about when it becomes the reason we follow God? The reason we obey?
We obey BECAUSE God will bless us. This thinking is wrong.
God is not an ATM. We put obedience in and—KACHINNNGG—we get out what we want. God cannot be manipulated. Every good and perfect thing comes from Him alone. Not because we deserve it. Our very best is as filthy rags.

From an earthly perspective—times are uncertain. The truth is, times were never at any time, certain. We shouldn't be putting our stock here in this life anyway. But what happens when things happen in our world and country (sometimes even closer and closer to home) get super real for us? What usually happens? WE HAVE A TENDENCY TO BECOME AFRAID.
What happens when we are afraid as wives? From what I've seen, WE BEGIN LOOKING AROUND AND COMPARING OUR DESIRE FOR SAFETY TO MEN WHO ARE LEADING THEIR FAMILIES ACCORDING TO OUR IDEAL.
What then? We usually begin manipulating to get the leadership that we want. What does that cause—fighting of course? But perhaps a change in God's plan for our lives.

1 Peter 3:1-2 goes onto say, "Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives."
1 Corinthians 7:16-17 says even more when it says, "How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches."
This is where we are and we are commanded to submit to our husbands as unto God regardless of our husband's place with the Lord. No matter the condition of his heart.

As a wife who has had my fair share of poor attitudes, I can attest to this truth of deceptive bad attitudes. There wasn’t a day that went by that I din’t have a bad attitude. It was exhausting. But to make matters worse I HAD NO REAL IDEA what I was doing or what was going on.

The reasons we choose to do and not do certain things as parents are many, but the only real reason we have opinions contradictory to our children is because of that one word. Perspective. Point blank—we have understanding that they don’t yet possess.
The same is true for us Christian wives.
When we fail to understand God’s kingdom within marriage and how its design was always meant to be a mirror that reflects that kingdom, it is because we lack perspective. Just as your child may not understand a decision you make, we are children who oftentimes don’t understand our Heavenly Father’s decision to structure marriage the way He has. It doesn’t matter that we mean well as Christian wives and want more of Him in our lives, there is a consequence of not understanding His ways and following them AND IT IS ALWAYS strife within marriage.

There is an enemy so great, that is seeks to destroy your marriage by way of fighting (see episode 6). Sadly it succeeds in weighing our marriages down all too often simply because we don't know about its power at work in our wife-hearts. But there is great news! There is an even greater weapon you possess as a Christian wife—in fact, it is your greatest weapon as a Christian wife! This is a massive and ESSENTIAL question! God's kingdom and design within marriage looks crazy, especially in the culture that we live in today. But that is why you and I need to ask ourselves as wives—how bad do we want peace? Are we desperate to the point where we are willing to risk looking crazy, even to our closest friends? Being desperate will lead us to peace and IT WILL ultimately be what ends the fighting in our marriages.

The word of God says not to conform to the pattern of this world. But everyday as Christian wives we conform when we use the method of fighting to solve the unrest in our marriages.
