Teasers for the new EV9 electric family SUV suggest the production version will look exactly like the concept, and it is totally worth waiting for. It almost was - no suicide doors but still - pretty cool! As part of its strategy to expand its electric vehicle line-up to 11 models by 2026, Kia will introduce the highly anticipated EV9 mid-size SUV in the North American market at the end of the year. Positioned as the flagship offering by the Korean brand, the EV9 is essentially the electric counterpart of the Telluride SUV. Based on the E-GMP architecture, which will also spawn the Hyundai Ioniq 7, this mid-size offering from Kia will be a three-row family SUV. Though official details related to the EV9 are still relatively scarce, from what the brand has revealed so far, it is pretty evident that this vehicle will be a premium offering and might also come with decent off-road capability.
Market-wise, the Kia EV9 is targeting Families - the peeps that might drive gas fueled SUVs. The other EVs looking to encroach on this market are the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, the Chevy Traverse, and of course, the KIA Telluride. Three rowed EVs are few and far between but do exist - the Rivian R1S and the Tesla model X and some model Y’s, which cost a lot more!
