3月28日午前11時半ごろ、京都府亀岡市保津町保津山の桂川で、保津川遊船企業組合（同市）から「保津川下りの船1隻が転覆した」と119番があった。京都府警亀岡署によると、乗客25人と船頭ら同組合4人の計29人が乗船していた。このうち男性船頭（51歳）が搬送先の京都市内の病院で死亡が確認され、乗船していた男性従業員（40歳）の行方が分かっておらず、川に流された可能性があるとみて警察や消防が捜索している。乗客25人は無事だったというが、負傷状況を確認中という。
