God the Father Is a Guide
A father’s presence (or lack of presence) has a lasting impact on their children's lives. Our fathers are meant to be guides - throughout the life of a daughter, a father will function like a compass, pointing her in the right direction. He will nurture, offer praise, give feedback, secure and provide a sense of direction and purpose.

Without this guide, women experience substantial loss. Thankfully, God our Father provides guidance. In this episode, Kia shows us three ways that our Father in Heaven is also our guide.

God the Father Is Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent
God is Omniscient – he is all-knowing
God is Omnipresent – he is everywhere
God is Omnipotent – he is all-powerful

What do these character traits (attributes) of God have to do with father wounds? Kia unpacks what these beautiful truths about who our Heavenly Father is means for those of us who have been hurt by our earthly fathers.

God the Father Is Concerned about You
There is never a moment we are not cared for by God and watched over by him. Do you know this? Do you believe it? Do you need to spend time meditating on God’s compassion and attentiveness?

Sometimes when God feels distant or unconcerned, he might be giving us an opportunity to grow up.

God the Father Is Merciful
Our sin requires payment. Because of God’s mercy (he does not give us what we deserve) he does the unthinkable: he spares us by sacrificing his own son for our sins. What would motivate a holy God to send his perfect, holy Son to die for a sinful people? Love. His compassionate, unexplainable, radical love for us compels him to be merciful to us.

In this episode, Kia covers:

- God’s mercy toward women in the Bible.
- Kia asks: where do you need to take how of God’s mercy in your life?

God the Father Is Good
For those who believe that if there is a God, he cannot possibly be good - Kia walks through three assumptions of this line of thinking:

Assumptions:

1. Good things should only happen to good people, and bad things should only happen to bad people.

2. We have a common understanding with God of who is good and bad.

3. Things that are bad can never result in a good outcome.

By exploring these assumptions, we can come to a right view of God’s goodness.

God the Father Affirms Us
The words of our biological fathers can uplift us, or wound us deeply. For those of us with father wounds, we usually wrestle with deeply hurtful words or an absence of affirmation. This is why it is essential that we look to our Father for affirmation. For every woman who has felt unseen or invisible or unaffirmed by their biological father, God says over and over in his Word: I affirm you.

Scripture Referenced:
Psalm 139

God the Father Is Faithful
A faithful person is loyal, constant, reliable, dependable, believable and true. But we’re not talking about a person, we’re talking about God. All these definitions of faithful are true of God, perfectly true. But why is it so difficult sometimes to believe that God is faithful?

In this episode, Kia explores why we struggle with our perception of God, and how we can begin to align our perspective with the truth about who God reveals himself to be.

God the Father Is a Provider
One of the names God calls himself is Jehovah Jireh, which means provider. Do you believe this is true - that God will provide for all of your needs?

In this episode, Kia unpacks the famous story of Abraham and Issac at the alter, and the father who provides for his children even in the most impossible circumstances.

God the Father Is Accessible
Episode 13: God the Father Is Accessible

There is something so comforting about the fact that we do not have to wait to commune with God. He is always accessible to us, always ready to listen to us. All we have to do is quiet ourselves and talk to him exactly as we are. He is not too busy, not too important and not too preoccupied to stop and commune with us.

Even our best friends and closest family members can’t be there for us the way God can. This is especially true when our fathers were inaccessible or completely absent. Maybe the lesson you took from that was that you had yourself to depend on. But God is there for you and you can always, always depend on him.

We’ll take a closer look at this principle in the story of Joshua 10.

God the Father Loves Us Intentionally
When I was a child, I was bullied in school. It was one of the most defining experiencing of my life. It laid the foundation for a variety of lies I believed for a long time, which drove poor decision-making as a result.

Our existence isn’t a mistake. God wants us to be here. Everything about us was created with intention. If you feel unloved, unwanted or unimportant by man - God has always loved, wanted and valued us. “I formed you,” he tells Jeremiah, and us.

A Closer Look at Knowing God as Father
Years ago, I stumbled across a quote I’ve never been able to forget: “Sociologists say it is common for people to perceive that God is like their fathers or fatherly figures in their lives.”

If your father was silent, absent, angry, prideful, abusive, etc., you could believe God was that way, too.

What does it mean to say God is a father to the fatherless when we cannot see, hear or touch him? In this episode, Kia unpacks her own father wound story and how she started her journey to view God as Father.

Setting Boundaries Without Guilt
If you have a hurtful, challenging relationship with your father, setting boundaries is a practice worth considering. By setting boundaries, you are deciding in advance how to respond to the hurtful behavior and words of your father. When we do this, we decide to take control of the only thing we can be in control of ourselves.

In this episode, Kia practically outlines what it means to guard your heart, setting healthy heart boundaries with your father. Kia also tackles the specific challenge of setting money boundaries with fathers in need.

What Should Honoring an Absent Father Look Like?

God wants us to honor our fathers and mothers. But how can we do that, why should we do that, when we have deep, painful father wounds? And yet, we know the Christian way means loving those even who hurt us. Forgiveness and prayer, though hard, are still doable.

In this episode, Kia walks through what God’s Word says about loving our fathers and how we can pursue the most excellent way, even with someone who has left us wounded.

Bringing Father Wounds into a Marriage
Key truths from today’s episode:

1. You can’t look to your husband to fill the void for affirmation that your father left you.
2. You must forgive your dad, or it will impact your marriage relationship.
3. You must look at God to meet your needs, not your husband.

Kia unpacks these key truths in this episode, and explains how bringing these needs to God is the first step to freeing your husband (or your future husband) from your father wounds.

How Fathers Impact Dating Relationships
Navigating dating without your father is like traveling in a foreign country without a map or GPS. Ultimately, what a daughter learns about the opposite sex through her father informs what she understands (or doesn't understand) about the men around her.

How Your Father Impacts Your Self Worth
When a father is absent, he takes a piece of his daughter’s heart with him. Daughters with father wounds grow up longing to be known, loved, confident, capable and worthy of being treated with respect. We need this not just as little girls, but as grown women, too. In this episode, Kia shares her own story of reaching out to her father, and the lessons she learned about where her true self worth comes from. We must replace the ache in our souls with the truth from God’s Word.
