The video we played at the start of our conversation with Ben is Natural Playground recorded in late 2016.
The Q&A that followed the interview asked Ben how he edits videos with his injuries. Here is a video of Ben showing his editing setup.
That's all for now, gotta run.
On this episode of Le Run Down I had an eye opening conversation with ultra runner, Jerry Hughes.
He overcame adversity far before getting into running, pushing forward through his diagnosis and treatment for Gardner's Syndrome.
He used running as a way to improve his health and quickly realized endurance was for him. From marathons, to 100 milers and now the Canadian 48 hour record, he's inspiring the run community and proving that we are all capable of so much more than we think.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a fun conversation with professional triathlete, Katie Zaferes.
Katie was a natural runner growing up becoming a multi-time cross country champion in High School. She was later identified by the USA Triathlon Recruitment Program and never looked back.
She's been competing at the Elite level for almost 10 years now and has shown steady progress throughout her career. Katie thought that starting a family would slow her down but instead it's fueled her fire for competition.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had an inspiring chat with Ultra Runner and creator of End2End, Alexis Limoges.
He started with 3 kilometer runs around his house but slowly increased his distance and saw there was so much more to discover the further he went.
Alexis continued to develop that passion, growing through the sport and is trying to help those who aren't so lucky. Creating End2End has allowed him to not only push his own personal limits but raise funds for local charities as well.

On this episode of Le Run Down we discuss fueling with Ultra Trail Runner, David Jeker.
David's first love was cycling, embarking on long multiday tours to travel and explore Europe. He still uses the bike to commute but now it's more of a way to get to exciting run destinations.
He's an exceptional endurance athlete but what makes David even more interesting is his keen understanding of fueling and how it affects performance. It's a topic I've been very curious about lately and I can't wait to share his knowledge with you all.

On this episode of Le Run Down I enjoyed a great conversation with Elite Distance runner and Mile2Marathon coach, Justin Kent.
Justin played all sports growing up but decided to turn his focus to running. With the influence of his father and coach's, he's been able to grow up through the sport in a positive way.
He holds speedy times in the 1500 meters all the way up to the marathon and he races all distances to keep himself sharp for any challenge. His ultimate goal is to make an Olympic team, slowly building year after year in pursuit of his own personal potential.

On this episode of Le Run Down I spoke with Canada's best 10K runner, Benjamin Flanagan.
Ben played all sports growing up but showed some promise in X country back in high school. It's there that the dream to one day make an Olympic team was born.
He currently hold Canada's 10k record and many other titles. And most recently took home his 3rd win at the Falmouth road race. Seems like he's gaining momentum at the perfect time, as he looks to seize this opportunity and make his first Olympic appearance in Paris 2024.

I was fortunate to meet Josh a few years back at Ultra Trail Harricana in Charlevoix Quebec and his energy was contagious. He's got a love and passion for the sport that's hard to beat.
He's taken on many challenging races and always gives it his all, most recently tackling the TransRockies and finishing 3rd, after taking the title back in 2021. Today she holds multiple endurance records as an amputee runner. Most recently completing 104 marathons in 104 straight days for charity, proving that we are all capable of extraordinary things.

Growing up Dayna always loved to run but was interested in a variety of sports like soccer, figure skating, and gymnastics. After completing university she decided to invest more time into running and that move paid dividends.
Now after more than 12 years, she's a 10 time national medalist, was named to the Canadian World Champion Team, and most recently competed in her first Olympics in Tokyo.

On this episode of Le Run Down we chat with nonbinary pro triathlete, "The Purple Tiger" Rach McBride.
At an early age they enjoyed running cross country but traded it for something more creative in their early teens.
Rach rediscovered a love for endurance sports in their late 20's, finding early success in the marathon. Then, with the encouragement of a mentor, they began training to become an elite triathlete, turned pro and never looked back.

On this episode of Le Run Down I learnt a bunch about movement and why it's important for runners with triathlete, chiropractor, and elite runner Garrett De Young.
Growing up, he was a multisport athlete who got exposed to a variety of sports, and found himself excelling at running. Competing at a high level helped Garrett see the challenges athletes face and how many lacked general strength and mobility.
He is now a professional in the space, helping athletes to not only move better in sport but also in life.

On this episode of Le Down I had an excellent conversation with ultramarathoner and triathlete, Rob Kemp.
Rob had an active childhood and used running as a way to stay in shape for hockey. But over the years it became so much more.
He's enjoyed a long career in radio and doesn't shy away from long distances either, taking on marathons, Ironman triathlons and most recently, the Bromont Ultra 100 miler. He taught me sometimes it's not about how or if you finish but the pursuit of something far greater. The victory comes from getting to the start.

Ways to help Tommy and his family:
Fundraiser for Stephanie Catudal by John Peel : Rest up, Tommy, we'll see you soon (gofundme.com)
On this episode of Le Run Down we throw it back to the Boston from 2019, where we sat down with Tommy Rivers Puzey. It was the last time the race was held in-person, over two years ago.
Tommy gratuitously accepted our invitation to chat and shared his journey with us. We spoke about the marathon at length and he let us in to everything that brought him to that point. A lot has happened since then however.
Early in 2020 Tommy was diagnosed with NK T-Cell lymphoma, which is an extremely rare form of cancer. He battled through, fighting for his life and has since made a miraculous recovery. We're blessed that we were able to have spoken to Tommy that weekend in Boston and no doubt, if his body allowed, he'd love to toe the line with his peers at the 125th Boston marathon on Monday.
So whether you're racing this year or just need that extra bit of inspiration, give this episode a listen and enjoy all his wisdom.

On this episode of Le Run Down I caught up with distance runner, and director of sales and marketing for Ciele Athletics, Dan Marrett.
Growing up Dan ran for sport but years later it was a work fitness challenge that drew him back to running and he just kept going.
He continues to pursue personal excellence in running as he builds a young family and a career in Vancouver. Part of that journey is discovering and sharing stories through running, allowing him to connect with runners from all walks of life.

On this episode of Le Run Down we went on an adventure with ultra distance runner and World explorer Ray Rahab.
Looking at him now you'd never guess he used to be a big smoker and drinker. But in his early 30's he decided he had enough and changed the course of his life.
He's travelled through jungles, extreme cold and grueling heat. Crossed countries, continents and thousands of miles. Including crossing the sahara in 111 days, which opened his eyes to all of life's possibilities.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a great chat with marathoner, Project Love Run leader and Yamajo run crew co-captain, Marge Jean-Louis.
For Marge, running followed her wherever she went. It started as a way to stay healthy and fit but eventually turned into so much more.
From 10ks and half marathons to major marathons and The Speed Project, preparation was the key to success. And as she continues to chases her own dreams, she's always encouraging others to find self love and compassion through running.

On this episode of Le Run Down I caught up with runner, triathlete and area developer for VeloFIx Quebec, Jeremy Cochrane.
Whether it was competitive hockey and getting a good education or more recently running and multi sport, Jeremy always gave it his 110%.
We'll discuss his journey into endurance sports, the challenges beginners face and all the lessons along the way. It's not always about winning or being the best, in fact for most of us, it's more about enjoying the process and taking what you can on race day.

On this episode of Le Run Down I got to catch up with an old friend. Competitive distance runner, RunBoston tour guide and director of Athletic Programs for the Boston Athletics association, Wayne Levy.
Running has always been and continues to be a constant in Wayne's everyday life. In fact almost everything he does revolves around running.
From his own running pursuit, to his involvement with the B.A.A, and helping the homeless literally get back on their feet, Wayne continues to pay it forward. Running saved his life and hopes it will save many others along the way.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had an entertaining talk with Elite Marathoner and 50K track World Record Holder, CJ Albertson.
He grew up with a competitive nature and a desire to win at everything he did, not just in sports. That spirit definitely carried through into his pro marathon career.
We spoke about CJ's incredible showing at the U.S trials, his experience at the marathon project and how his training regiment might be a little crazier than most. He's one of the most promising marathoners in the sport, so don't be surprised if you see his name atop the leader-board in the near future.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a fun chat with marathoner, event host and award winning actor, Stephen Alan Wilson.
Stephen discovered running in 2014 as a way to shed a few pounds and it changed his life. What started as a few miles a week quickly tuned into a healthier lifestyle, half and full marathons, with the occasional podium finish.
His career as an actor and long-time event host has taken him around the world, where he loves to encourage others to lace em up, head out for a run and most importantly, have fun!

On this episode of Le Run Down we had a long over due conversation with elite road and ultra distance runner, Alister Gardner.
In his early years back in the U.K he took a liking for snowboarding and the rush you get when you're ripping through the mountains.
Lucky for him, he was able to find that same thrill running trails. What's fascinating about Alister is his incredible versatility as runner, chasing distances ranging from 5ks to Ultras and always stays competitive!

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a great chat with multi Canadian record holder and Olympian, Gabriela DeBues-Stafford.
She comes from a running family and that influenced her as a kid. As a pro she found early success training out of Glasgow, but eventually returned to North America, where she now trains with the Bowerman Track Club.
It’s so remarkable how much she’s already accomplished in her career and she continues to push herself to become a better athlete each and every day.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a powerful conversation with Hedi Moussavi.
He grew up playing sports as a way to fit in, and only recently started running. After surviving a life threatening illness just over a year ago, running is how he chose to celebrate living and honor the memory of those who have passed.
In episode 14 Kat said "we're just ordinary people doing extra ordinary things." And Hedi's feat of 50 marathons in just over 100 days is nothing short of extraordinary.

On this episode of Le Run Down we had the pleasure of speaking with elites middle distance runner and Olympian, Carrie Tollefson.
Running was something Carrie loved to do from a young age and winning came naturally. But as she moved on to Villanova, the competition got tougher and she leaned on the support of her family to stay strong and grow as an athlete.
She takes us through her journey of National Titles, NCAA champions and eventually the Olympics but her career didn’t end there. Today, she’s a mother of three, a broadcaster and also hosts her own podcast. She’s full of energy and positivity, so we hope you enjoy this up tempo chat.

On this episode of Le Run Down we spoke to the funny and charismatic Chris Chavez. You may recognize his work on SI.com, or his voice on one of the podcasts that he hosts for the Citius Mag network, but he has his own running goals and aspirations too.
He’s already covered all six marathon world majors and he’s been to the Olympics too, but what fuels his fire right now is cracking that 3 hour marathon mark. One thing's for sure, if his running goes as well as his journalism, he’ll be crossing the line sub 3 in no time.

On this episode of Le Run Down we spoke with one of Canada's fastest marathoners, Dylan Wykes.
Running was a sport he enjoyed from a young age. But his competitive nature is what allowed him to excel, earning him a scholarship at a D1 school and eventually making his way onto the 2012 Olympic team.
From head coach, to elite coordinator for Ottawa race weekend, Dylan remains present in running. It’s clear that he’s passionate but he may be more connected to the community now, than ever before.

For our 50th episode of Le Run Down we reached for the stars and got to have an amazing conversation with Meb Keflezighi.
His story is one that could be turned into a movie script as his family left a world of poverty and war in Eritrea and made their way to America. He knew that every opportunity was precious, and he did not squander the chance to do something great with his life.
He worked his way up the ranks, earning a silver medal at the olympics and winning the New York City and Boston marathons, but always remained grateful and humble throughout his journey. This episode is a little shorter than most but make sure you listen to every word because just like in running, Meb makes every moment count.

In this episode of Le Run Down, we had the privilege of speaking with Canadian Olympian and elite distance runner, Lanni Marchant.
Running was a punishment when she started out as a figure skater, but today it's the sport she loves most.
We discuss her early struggles with sports, mental health, her journey to Rio, and how she’s handled the last 3 years recovering from multiple surgeries. Despite all that, she sounds more driven than ever to line up for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer.

On this episode of Le Run Down I with run coach, marathon runner and community leader, Matt Luke Meyer.
Matt only found running later in life. He moved to New York City to pursue an acting career and was working as a bartender to make a living, which led him down an unhealthy path. He didn’t like who he had become and decided he needed to make a change.
That change was in fact life changing. Running was only a small part of the at the time but five years later, running is all Matt knows. He’s wrapped himself in the new york city run community and pushed his limits further that he ever thought possible. He’s got even bigger dreams on the horizon and if this trend continues, his potential is endless.

On this episode of Le Run Down I spoke with a Para Athletics Team Canada track and field star Nate Riesh.
He comes from a family of gifted elite athletes and for Nate, it wasn’t any different. He excelled in baseball and his future in the sport looked bright, but suddenly a golf accident took that away.
Nate was paralyzed on his right side but after years of therapy, he found running. He now competes on the world stage as a 800 and 1500meter runner but if not for the support of family and friends, he would not be where he is today. (His words, not ours).

Looking at her now you'd see healthy, strong and powerful women, but it wasn’t always that way. Like many, Val faced a troubled past with substance abuse and an eating disorder but eventually she turned her life around.
Find out how she lifted up from rock bottom and is now on the top of her game, motivating everyone around her in the fitness community. Her story is nothing short of inspiring, hope you enjoy it!

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a great chat with one of the province’s best runners, Francois Jarry.
He fell in love with the sport years ago when he won a race he entered in high school and he never looked back. He’s been the Quebec ten thousand meter champ for the last five years but he’s a pretty great marathoner too. Running two hours and twenty two minutes in his elite marathon debut. And his goal is to set the Quebec marathon record one day.
For Francois, running was a sport that helped shape his identity. Something I think we can all relate to one way or another on our own running journey.
On this episode of Le Run Down I dug a little bit deeper into nutrition with registered holistic nutritional practitioner Danielle Levy.
We discuss our relationship to food, the importance of fueling properly and how we can approach our meals in a more balanced way.
So if you have questions about nutrition and how it relates to sports or in everyday life, you won’t want to miss my conversation with Danielle. It will definitely give you some food for thought!
On this episode of Le Run Down I got to speak with sports nutritionist, triathlete and BRAVA co-creator Stephanie Jamain.
We spoke about her introduction to running, how sports help her stay active and spend time with friends, and how her love for triathlon led to the creation of Brava.
On top of it all she’s a sports nutritionist so it was fun to pick her brain on that, especially when it comes to fueling for these long endurance races. Hope you enjoy this talk as much as I did.
On this episode of Le Run Down we recorded live from Gusta restaurant for the first race of the RUNK Race Series here in Montreal. This event was created by Gophrette Power who you can find @gophobservation on Instagram.
This first edition is called La Ultima Carrera. It’s an alley cat style race where the goal will be to collect items at each checkpoint on the way to the finish, only finding out where they need to go once the race starts.
Take a listen to see how this one unfolds and hearing what the runners have to say after the race!

On this episode of Le Run Down I chatted with my good friend and training buddy Geoff McGregor. Growing up in British Columbia he took a liking to music and eventually got into endurance sports.
It was through sport that he learned that hard work leads to positive results. Those same life lessons translated into the world of ultra running.
I consider Geoff to be one of the strongest runners I know both through his ability to tackle big training weeks and also his mental toughness. He’s got a drive to succeed at everything he does, yet somehow always finds a way to make it fun and enjoyable for those around him.

On this episode of Le Run Down I got back to basics with the manager of Coaching and Development for Athletics Canada, John Lofranco. He’s enjoyed life as a runner himself and has continued to explore that passion by teaching others how they can be the best they can be.John has helped many athletes flourish, including Episode 12 guest Melanie Myrand, and Andrew MacMartin from Episode 35. Whatever your level, you'll have something to learn from Coach Lofranco.

On this episode of Le Run Down I spoke with former Pro Triathlete and World Cup Champion, Andrew MacMartin.
As a young teenager he took a liking to endurance sports, immersing himself in cross country and cycling. But when he heard about triathlon, that became his focus and becoming the best in the world quickly became his long term goal.
Despite tremendous success as a pro athlete, he decided to step away from the sport he loved. After a long hiatus, he found his love for running again. Although he knows he can’t perform at the same level as once did, Andrew is motivated to break a two hour forty minute marathon before he turns fifty and I have no doubt he’ll get there.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a great chat with my friend Lecia Mancini. She was active as a kid but got in with the wrong crowd in her late teens. Until one day she decided it was time to take her life back.
From her first triathlon to her first 100 k race, she breaks down her most challenging moments and her greatest triumphs in the sport. Over the last 6 years she’s carved her place in the run community. She’s a key leader of the run rite athletics club and she now has a run club of her own called Prefontaine. In this episode of Le Run Down I made my way down to New York City for the marathon and had the opportunity to chat with elite marathoner, Allie Keiffer.
She went into her first marathon, thinking she was going to do the half the night before and ended up winning it with a time of 2:55:30. That was the 2016 Miami Marathon, and only a year later she managed to shave 25 minutes off her time, finishing 5th in New York.
Allie is resilient, dedicated, and focused on the Olympic trials in Atlanta next February.

In this episode of Le Run Down I discuss group running, the November Project and The Speed Project with Laurent Caudrellier.
After trying to make it in the big city of Toronto, it was apparent to him there was very little work-life balance. That’s why he moved back to Montreal and rediscovered himself just two years ago.
Now he’s a community leader. Joining different run groups on a weekly basis, supporting other people's goals, and co-leading the November Project every Wednesday morning in the old port @ 6:29 am. It sounds like that was a life-changer for Laurent, so hopefully, it could help you too.

On this episode of Le Run Down, I sat down with a good friend of mine and the most recent winner of the Ultra-Trail Harricana 65k, Olivier Collin.
Growing up he specialized in cross country racing and later on in the 1500m at the collegiate level. He was always a fast guy but when frustrating injuries came into play he was forced to change paths and pursue academics.
Now Olivier has found his passion for running again, this time through the trails. He's racing for fun, but with talent like his, it’s been tough to keep him off the leaderboard in his first season of ultras.

On this episode of Le Run Down I had a chat with the national Canadian record holder in the half marathon and marathon, Rachel Cliff.
We spoke while she was in town for the Canadian Track and Field Championship, where she placed 3rd in the 10,000 meter. Two weeks later she took home the bronze for Canada at the Pan Am Games in Peru.
Rachel's a talented athlete with a powerful story of perseverance. She was denied a spot on the 2016 Olympic Team despite running the 5,000 meter standard. Now she's back stronger than ever with her sights set on 2020 in Tokyo.

On this episode of Le Run Down I speak with pro vegan triathlete, coach and Skechers athlete, Antoine Jolicoeur Duroches.
He discovered at a young age that his passion was in endurance sports. Antoine split his time between cross country skiing in the winter and short track triathlon in the summer finding that they complemented each other quite well.
Now 25, he’s been racing pro for the last 5 years and has been vegan athlete for just as long. In 2018 he placed 4th at Ironman Mont Tremblant and is looking for a better performance in just a few weeks. We’ll be tracking and cheering him on every step of the way.
