"goodbye/fun facts....A’Phabet Day or No “L” Day is celebrated on December 25 each year. The day uses a pun to reference Christmas Day. The name of the holiday is a play on the word ‘Noel,’ which means “to be born,” and is used by the French. The day is meant for pun enthusiasts across the world. The earliest evidence of puns came from ancient Egypt, where they were used to interpret dreams and describe myths. Puns are used in comedy, literature, rhetoric, and design. If you’re getting into the A’Phabet Day spirit, avoid pronouncing ‘L’ today. It’ll prove to be a fun challenge.

Have it with your friends and family, or you can host a virtual party via in-browser extensions like ‘Teleparty.’

goodbye/fun facts....The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It occurs annually between December 20th and December 23rd. The winter solstice is marked by the point at which the North Pole is at its farthest from the sun during its yearly orbit around the sun. On the bright side, the days will gradually become longer in the Northern Hemisphere until the summer solstice in June. Probably the most famous of these is Stonehenge, England. Every year when the sun sets on the winter solstice, the sun's rays align with two of the giant stones known as the central Altar and the Slaughter stone.

They were the first twins recorded in the Bible. we seem fascinated whenever we see twins among us, whether as babies, teenagers, or adults, fraternal or identical twins....or even triplets, quads, or more! Moses and Aaron Wilcox are the pair of twins who inspired National Twin Day. In 1819, on this day...they donated six acres of land to a town, Millville, OHIO. In exchange, the town changed its name to Twinsburg. In 1976, Twinsburg hosted the first twin festival. that first year only 36 twins were in attendance...but over the last 48 years...the festival has seen over 84,000 twins and multiples in attendance!

goodbye/fun facts....roast chestnuts day...Although it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when they started to become so popular, historians pencil the 16th century in as being a turning point, when the nuts would be sold by street vendors to anyone wanting a quick and warming snack. When chestnuts are carefully roasted, the natural sweetness of the nut is revealed. This makes them an ideal snack if you want something to stave off a sweet tooth...they are also low in calories and a good source of fiber. They are also very rich in vitamin C. you can make them at home using your conventional kitchen oven. All you need to do is cut a cross into each nut, put them on a roasting tin and bake them until the skins open. They are eaten after peeling away that tough, shiny skin.

Players originally made dice from the talus (ankle bone) of hoofed animals. They also used ivory, and wood...today they are almost always made from plastic or synthetic resin. The dots on a die are called "pips". Each pip or combination of pips represents a number. In old-fashioned English, `dice' was used only as a plural form, and the singular was die, but now `dice' is used as both the singular and the plural form. Dice games are not only entertaining. Of course, the kings started this custom, and gingerbread cookies were frequently served at Queen Elizabeth I’s court. goodbye/fun facts....National French Toast Day...the thick, sweet or savory dish that’s become a staple of the American breakfast...Most experts agree that French toast dates back to ancient Rome....coming from the desire not to waste food...in fact, the French do not call this French toast. It’s called “pain perdu,” or “lost bread,” because you're supposed to use stale bread to make it. Irish settlers traveling to the U.S. and Canada may have brought the term with them in 1871 even though they also called it "spanish toast" and "german toast"...french is what stuck. how do you make the best french toast? Set your bread out the night before and let it go stale... Don't use too much dairy (it should be mostly egg with a splash of mile)....Add something sweet like a squeeze of orange juice or a little sugar. When the sugar caramelizes, it will add a crispy texture to the edges of your French toast....and only use medium high heat...high heat will burn the outside and leave the inside too mushy

goodbye/fun facts....Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the biggest and most anticipated events during this holiday. Rowland Hussey Macy was a businessman born in 1822 in Massachusetts. In 1843, Rowland Macy opened four dry goods stores to serve the mill industry which saw moderate success...Macy died in 1877 and ownership of the company eventually went to his partners, brothers Isidor and Nathan Straus who grew the store into what it is today. The famous Macy’s logo is inspired by the founder Rowland Macy’s tattoo of a red star which symbolizes the time when he was lost at sea while working as a whaler. the parade was first introduced in 1924 and has continued to grow and develop since then. This year, NBC has moved the broadcast up a half-hour to an 8:30 a.m. start and will air on NBC and livestream on Peacock A re-broadcast will air from 2-5:30 p.m. on NBC.

goodbye/fun facts....national tie one on day...(no...not that kind!!). this day celebrates the apron...sort of...On National Tie One On Day, apron-clad people in their homes put a sweet little note in an apron, wrap a loaf of bread in it, and deliver it to anyone who they’d like to show a little holiday love. Cooking can be messy. But the apron is there to protect your clothes...The word apron originally began as the French word "naperon" meaning doily or frock... However, when it was translated to English, the phrase "a napron" gradually separated into "an apron" giving us an accidental word.

goodbye/fun facts....national stuffing day...stuffing is a major player in the world of Thanksgiving. is it stuffing or dressing? stuffing means it was cooked inside the bird...dressing means it was cooked separately...each preparation is a personal preference or family tradition. there are no hard and fast rules about what constitutes it—it can be bread, any kind of bread, rice, quinoa, and even matzo. or you can buy stores bought...all thanks to a home economist in 1972 named Ruth Siems. ever heard of stove top stuffing? Her name was the first listed on United States Patent 3,870,803 Her patent was based on a certain size of bread crumb that makes the rehydration of the dried bread a perfect consistency

goodbye/fun facts....Occurring at the cusp of winter, National Absurdity Day is a fantastic way to liven up a dreary day follow their most preposterous whims. Throughout history, all kinds of bizarre occurrences mark the calendar. It’s a time to exchange social customs and dull norms for playful and untethered behaviors. The real philosophy of absurdism began in the 19th century in the mind of a Danish philosopher called Kierkegaard. Its premise is that humans are all searching to find meaning in a meaningless universe. Absurdism can be difficult to define since it is by its very nature anti-establishment...and highly subjective but the point is to do something that you find silly and absurd today!

Archaeologists continue to speculate over whether the “Divje Babe Flute” is indeed the oldest musical instrument. It’s dated to be approximately 43,500 years old and is made out of a cave bear femur. Ever wonder why musicians sell merch, go on tour, and lend their face to commercials? Well, the average musician only earns about 6% from sound recordings, and less than a cent per stream. 90.7% of all artists are undiscovered, meaning there are billions of potential favorite songs out there that may never bless our ears! goodbye/fun facts....national scrapple day...a dish born from humble beginnings as the first pork food invented in America and has become a traditional staple of the Mid-Atlantic states. Scrapple combines pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal, wheat flour, and spices, such as sage, thyme, savory and black pepper. The mush is then formed into a semi-solid loaf, sliced and pan-fried. it's a great example of taking food that would otherwise have gone to waste and turning it into something tasty and delicious. If you’ve never tried it before then today is the day....but it seems to have started in 800 BC...The process of making dishes similar to Scrapple can be found in pre-Roman Europe...and the dish was brought to the u.s. by German immigrants to Pennsylvania in 1602...and if you don't like pork...try making it with beef, chicken, or turkey

goodbye/fun facts....Notary Public Day...Notaries are trusted public officials who bring legitimacy to an agreement. The practice of the notary public dates back to ancient Egypt 2750 B.C., a time when recording official transactions became important to humanity. Notaries were an important part of the transatlantic commerce of colonization. Merchants depended on them to be independent third parties, reporting damages to the vessels or cargo...Notaries serve as impartial witnesses to commercial and private transactions. November 7 was specifically chosen as Notary Public Day in recognition of Thomas Fugill, the man who first took the title when he was appointed by the Colony of New Haven on November 7, 1639.

Native to Ceylon, which is modern day Sri Lanka... in the Malay language, it goes by “kayumanis”, which means “sweet wood”...because it comes from the inner bark of the Sri Lankan cinnamon tree. Strips of the inner bark are dried until they curl into rolls known as cinnamon sticks or quills. These can then be ground into powder or made into an extract. Combined with allspice, nutmeg and clove, cinnamon is the base for this grouping of flavors that represents all things fall. For generations, cinnamon has been prized for its health properties. During medieval times, doctors found that cinnamon worked well as a treatment for coughs, sore throats and hoarseness. who doesn't love cinnamon!!!

goodbye/fun facts....National Doorbell Day recognizes the buzzer bell, chimer, melody tunes, and so on, beckoning us whenever there is a guest at the door. When kids come to trick-or-treat us on Halloween, it’s the humble doorbell that announces their arrival. it all started in 1817 when William Murdoch, a Scottish inventor, designs a doorbell by passing compressed air through a pipe...then in 1831 Joseph Henry, an American scientist, creates a doorbell that works on electricity. then in the 1930's J Ralph Corbett hard-wires an outdoor button to a transformer connected to a chime or bell within the house, creating the doorbell we know today. His invention permanently replaced the bells and knockers. and today we have smart doorbells where you can program changing chimes...and doorbells for the hearing impared that use flash led lights.

Without checklists, we can feel like we’re juggling a bunch of balls in the air and trying to keep them from dropping. Even the simple things can be forgotten or go unnoticed — let alone the difficult or complex things that fill our day. you might be surprised to learn that checklists came out of a need to keep pilots safe during WWII...due to a crash that injured several people. the pilot had forgotten to do a simple task — and that simple omission caused the aircraft not to respond to pitch control. Cupcakes can be traced back to 1796 when a recipe notation of "a cake to be baked in small cups" was written in American Cookery, by Amelia Simmons. Bakers initially baked their cupcakes in heavy pottery cups....but today there are so many choices: individual ramekins, small coffee mugs, large teacups, muffin pans, paper or silicone liners. And you can jazz up the chocolate flavor too...chocolate mint, chocolate orange, double or triple chocolagte...or watch The Food Network reality-based competition show, Cupcake Wars has a million ideas too!

goodbye/fun facts....National Department Store Day...Trade can be defined as the process of exchange of goods or services for other goods, services, or money. Initially, under the barter system, goods were exchanged for other goods. Luxury goods like spices, textiles, precious metals, etc., were among the first traded ones. This trade evolved and shaped the modern world that we know today. Primitive shops and trade centers can be traced as far as 7500 B.C. but the early forms of department stores only started to appear during the 19th century in France. By 1818, Brooks Brothers established the first apparel retail business in America. While department stores are on the declineLearn more about department store history. Many shoppers couple the advantages of comparison shopping online catalogs, then visit their department store for the real-feel decision. goodbye/fun facts....train your brain day...Exercising the brain is important. Routine activities don't keep the mind sharp...and even though it's not technically a muscle...you need to strenghten and exercise your brain! many studies have shown that people can become ill or well by using their minds. Reading, word puzzles, number games, brainteasers, trivia games, riddles, and word games are all good activities to “work out” your mind and develop your cognitive skills. Even simply learning something new is a beneficial “workout” for everyone’s brain..or switch up your routine...drive a different way to work...

goodbye/fun facts....farmers day...2 things we couldn't live without...bees and farmers!! The profession of farming began around 12,000 years ago with the domestication of livestock as hunter/gatherers settled down and started to plant their own food. it's backbreaking work...only 1.3% percent of the U.S. labor force made up by ranchers....so all those fruits and vegetables and meats and eggs and milk and grain etc you see in the grocery store...came from a farm. One of the best ways to thank a farmer is with your wallet. Head to a farmer’s market...which began in in Los Angeles as a way for farmers and merchants can sell their wares from permanent stalls.

Mini cakes, cupcakes, and cookies are all perfect little blank canvases to fill with your artistic vision

In 1687, Irish botanist Hans Sloane was appointed as a physician to the Duke of Albemarle in Jamaica. While in Jamaica, Sloane was introduced to Jamaican chocolate water. He found the drinks to be too bitter and added milk for taste. Because of his position, Sloane was allowed to bring the drink mixture back to Europe. He began preaching of the medicinal benefits and selling it to apothecaries.

goodbye/fun facts....National Key Lime Pie Day...Key limes are smaller, rounder, less acidic, and more fragrant than their familiar cousin, the Persian/Tahitian lime. The key lime pie gets its distinctive name from these small limes, naturalized in the Florida Keys. Lime juice can be substituted for regular lime juice in everything, from cocktails to condiments, on chicken, and fish/seafood, in marinades, sauces, and soups. Botanist, Jack Simons, is credited with inventing key lime pie; however, many other reports say that a ship salvager cook known as Aunt Sally created the first key lime pie in the early 1800's. These ships would have been the ideal place to find the non-perishable ingredients used in the earliest recipe: limes, eggs, and canned milk.

"goodbye/fun facts....national comic book day...First popularized in the United States, comic books are also called comic magazines. The earliest comic strips (which later gave birth to comic books) displayed dialogue in bubbles or balloons above characters’ heads. As an art form, the designs can be quite intricate. The term “comic book” comes from the first book sold as a book reprinted of humorous comic strips. Despite their name, comic books are not all humorous in tone and feature stories in all genres. Comic books have existed in America since the English printing of Swiss comic, The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, in 1842...but the introduction of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s Superman in 1938 turned comic books into a major industry...ushering in the Golden Age of Comics.

The difference is in the way the flesh comes away from the pit in the middle of the peach. While Georgia may be the first state to come to mind when we think of peaches, California actually leads the nation in production. Besides California and Georgia, the other two top producers are South Carolina and New Jersey. Peaches used to be known as Persian Apples....but whatever you call them...grab one and enjoy today.

"goodbye/fun facts....Pecan torte has become one of the most popular desserts in the United States. The term ‘pecan’ is said to have originated from the Native American word ‘pacane,’ which refers to nuts that are difficult to break. Torte is a rich, multilayered cake filled with buttercreams, whipped creams, jams, mousses, fruits or sweet icing. It is baked in a springform pan and has a top crust. The major component, however, is the pecan nut. It grows on the pecan tree, which is indigenous to the United States.
The pecan tree grows throughout the southern United States, particularly in Georgia, Texas, and New Mexico. It is also the official state tree of Texas. Native Americans made extensive use of the tree and its nut, which is extremely nutritious. "
