2011 Blue Jays: Brett Lawrie Mania Peaks (Pt. 4)
This week on Sportsfeld Storytime, we finish our look back at Brett Lawrie Mania. This week, we're digging into the falling action of Brett Lawrie's Blue Jay career, discussing Lawrie's antics on and off the field and what made him such a lightning bolt of attention in Toronto from 2011 to 2014. From great defensive play to falling down a pit in Yankee Stadium to throwing a helmet at an umpire, Brett Lawrie's Blue Jay career was a lot of things, but it certainly wasn't boring.

2011 Blue Jays: Brett Lawrie Mania Peaks (Pt. 1)
If you weren't watching the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011, it would be next to impossible to explain what it was like for Brett Lawrie to pop up overnight and become one of the biggest names in the whole city. This month we're revisiting the Brett Lawrie Experience, culminating in his first game-winning home run against the Boston Red Sox. In this episode, we examine the year before the Lawrie trade, where JP Arencibia and Brandon Morrow give us a glimpse of what we thought the future core would be, and the Blue Jays trade one of their strong starting pitchers for a Canadian human can of Red Bull.

2009 Blue Jays: Halladay vs Burnett (Pt. 4)
On this week's episode of Sportsfeld Storytime, we wrap up our look back at the Roy Halladay/AJ Burnett duel of 2009. This week, we're remembering the Roy Halladay trade, which saw him leave Toronto and head to Philadelphia where he would, of course, throw a no-hitter in his first playoff appearance. We then look back at Life After Doc, as Alex Anthopolous makes his first moves as GM, Jose Bautista becomes The God King, and Brett Lawrie leaps his way into our hearts.

2009 Blue Jays: Halladay vs Burnett (Pt. 1)
After three years of a starting pitcher bromance in bloom, AJ Burnett left our beloved Toronto Blue Jays to sign with the Yankees. In 2009, he returned to Skydome in a head to head matchup against who else? Roy Halladay. This month on Sportsfeld Storytime we look back at the "Playoff Atmosphere" in the dome several years before the actual playoffs would return to Toronto. In episode one, we remember the AJ Burnett era, three years where the Jays were quietly pretty good, and try our best to put some respect on the name of Vernon Wells.

2013 Maple Leafs: Playoffs vs Boston (Pt. 4)
It's a game that will later be crowned the Game of the Decade by the NHL. After a lengthy playoff drought, the Maple Leafs are back in the post-season. They are the Eastern Conference's fifth seed and face the Boston Bruins in a best of seven series. In this exclusive Patreon series, relive the highs and all the many lows of a game that for roughly 55 minutes seemed like Toronto was destined to win.

The Bruins came back and the Leafs lost in overtime. It's over. Not much to do now but examine the aftermath. Jake and Zubes go on a journey through the Leafs history of signings and trades following the collapse to Boston in 2013 and try to find a silver lining by connecting that struggle with our the present day Leafs team.

In this exclusive Patreon series, relive the highs and all the many lows of a game that for roughly 55 minutes seemed like Toronto was destined to win.

It's all downhill in part three. There were eleven minutes left and the Leafs were up 4-1... and then the wheels fell off. Jake and Zubes open up the vault of tweets and text messages to tell you precisely what they were feeling after watching the largest collapse in modern Leafs history. It was a dream come true, and then it slipped right through our fingers.

They are the Eastern Conference's fifth seed and face the Boston Bruins in a best of seven series. In this exclusive Patreon series, relive the highs and all the many lows of a game that for roughly 55 minutes seemed like Toronto was destined to win.

In part two, Jake and Zubes open on the doorstep of game seven and revive all the feelings that existed and how an early breakaway from the Bruins only 20 seconds in set them down a road of uneasiness. But, by the time the third period was six minutes old the Maple Leafs were in the lead 4-1 and the Boston broadcasters were ready to stick a fork in the Bruins' season. It was a dream come true, for the first time in two decades Toronto was witnessing a team be successful in the playoffs.

In part one, Jake and Zubes set the stage by reminding themselves of how weird that shortened 2013 season was, getting a refresher on a Leafs roster that contained names many of us may have forgotten, and leading us to the final whistle of game six in a series that for Leafs fans quickly went from 'we're just happy to be here' to 'we could actually win this thing' in a heartbeat.

2019 Raptors: The Kawhi Shot (Pt. 1)
This month on Storytime we're looking back into the not-so-distant past, now that the dust has settled and a large part of the 2019 Raptors have moved on, we remember the incredible Raptors championship run punctuated by The Shot. In episode one we set the scene, starting with the unbelievable middle-of-the-night trade for Kawhi Leonard that Jake found out about while sitting on the toilet. Nobody believed he'd play in Toronto, but we all know how that turned out. Turn the clock back just a little bit with us this month on Sportsfeld Storytime.

Storytime: Toronto FC – 2016 MLS Eastern Final vs Montreal (Pt. 4)
This week on Sportsfeld Storytime we finish our look back at the 2016 Toronto FC season with the 2016 MLS Cup Final, live from BMO Field. Toronto FC was fresh off their extremely dramatic Eastern Conference Finals victory over the Montreal Impact, and standing in their way of their first MLS Cup was their now rivals, the Seattle Sounders. Two teams that had never won the Cup before enter, only one team would emerge victorious. This week we look back at the drama of the Final, the brilliance of Stefan Frei, and just how utterly, bitterly cold it was at BMO Field that night. Stadiums should have roofs, guys. Storytime: Toronto FC – 2016 MLS Eastern Final vs Montreal (Pt. 3)
This week on Sportsfeld Storytime we're remembering one of the craziest games in TFC history, a remarkable back-and-forth two legs against the Montreal Impact in the 2016 MLS Cup Finals. In this week's episode we look back at the early 3-0 deficit in Leg 1, and then the absolutely magic decisive second leg in the rain and cold at BMO Field. With Giovinco, and Altidore, and Michael Bradley, it was Benoit Cheyrou scoring the biggest goal in extra time in the 2nd Leg, sending a record 36,000 TFC fans into pandemonium by the lakeshore.

Storytime: Toronto FC – 2016 MLS Eastern Final vs Montreal (Pt. 1)
This month of Sportsfeld Storytime we look back at the epic 2016 MLS Eastern Conference Final matchup in the 401 derby between Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact. In Part 1, we trace back our roots as fans of a brand new club in the city, and Zubes reveals he was a pretty serious part of the supporters section in the early days of the franchise. We remember the growth from games being an excuse to party and sing to the Bloody Big Deal to bring Jermain Defoe to the club.

Storytime: 2010 Men's Olympic Ice Hockey Gold (Pt. 4)
In this episode of Sportsfeld Storytime Jake and Zubes discuss how they celebrated Crosby's Golden Goal and then look forward, or back now I guess, to what came next for Team Canada. What they found was a much less exciting Gold Medal Game in 2014, and then a stunning loss in 2018 to....Germany? Whatever you say. Mason Raymond was there though.

Storytime: Raptors - 2001 Playoffs vs Philadelphia (Pt. 4)
It’s May 2001. The Raptors are still the youngest franchise in the NBA and have yet to earn respect around the league. Their previous season ended with a sweep courtesy of the New York Knicks, and in the offseason they lost budding star Tracy McGrady to the Orlando Magic. But there’s hope in the air.

Vince Carter has emerged as a star, and carried the Raptors to a franchise best 47-35 regular season record. They avenged their loss to the Knicks by defeating them in the 1st round, advanced to face superstar Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers. The series is absolutely bonkers, with the two future hall of famers trading 50 point scoring outputs and late game heroics, all setting the stage for Game 7 in Philadelphia.

In this Sportsfeld Storytime series, relive the most infamous shot in franchise history (at the time), and the most controversial graduation ceremony in sports history, as Jake and Zubes tell the story of Game 7 of the 2001 Eastern Conference Semi-Final.

Storytime: Maple Leafs - 2002 Playoffs vs Ottawa (Pt. 4)
It's 2002 and there's a thick layer of hope wafting in the air around the Air Canada Centre. The Leafs have finished 2nd in the East, only one point back of the Bruins. Mats Sundin is the highest scoring centre in the league and has led the team to their 4th consecutive playoff appearance. The supporting cast is stronger than ever with Darcy Tucker, Gary Roberts and Alexander Mogilny upfront, Tomas Kaberle & Bryan McCabe on the blue line, and Curtis Joseph manning the net.

After a hard fought 7-game series win against the New York Islanders in the first round, the Leafs are bruised, but ready to battle against the upstart Ottawa Senators, who feature young talent like Daniel Alfredsson, Marian Hossa and an oversized defensemen named Zdeno Chara.

Storytime: Blue Jays - 2015 The Bat Flip (Pt. 3)
This week we arrive at the definitive Blue Jays moment of this century Jose Bautista, the talisman for this era of the team caps off the craziest hour of playoff baseball we've ever seen with an emphatic home run in the biggest moment. We revisit the series of events that included a never-before-seen error by Russell Martin, a baby (?) getting hit by beer (?), and Elvis Andrus being cursed beyond a shadow of a doubt by the Baseball Gods, with three straight dropped balls to set the stage for the God King himself. You've probably heard the clip 500 times in your life by now, and we're giving you an excuse to make it 501.

Storytime: Blue Jays - 2015 The Bat Flip (Pt. 2)
This week on Sportsfeld Storytime, we continue our look back at, perhaps, the most legendary moment in Blue Jays history, Jose Bautista and his wonderful bat flip. This week we discuss how the actual most legendary moment in Blue Jays history has become overshadowed by Jose's blast. Plus, we relive some Josh Donaldson heroics, and realize that it's always a good time to talk about Jose Bautista punking the Orioles. Just don't throw at him! It's not hard.

Storytime: Blue Jays - 2015 The Bat Flip (Pt. 1)
We've finally arrived at the defining moment of the modern Toronto Blue Jays. In 2015 the Jays made a handful of major moves in the offseason to announce that they were serious about contending for a wide-open American League East division. Before Price and Tulo, the Jays made their intentions known by filling two major gaps that the 2014 team needed filled in a major way: catcher and third base. The Jays paid big money for a free agent to bring Canadian Russell Martin home, then took a calculated risk to ship popular star Brett Lawire to the Oakland Athletics for Josh Donaldson. Even though we know how it turns out, there was plenty of doubt around the team's ability to build a winner, and whether these were the right pieces to gamble with.

Storytime: 2014 Blue Jays - 19 Innings vs Detroit (Pt. 4)
This week on Sportsfeld Storytime, we wrap up our look back at the 2014 Blue Jays and their epic 19-inning win over the Detroit Tigers. This week we look at what came after those 19 innings and it was... nothing good. As the Blue Jays limped to the finish, another peak Jose Bautista year wasted, the Blue Jays knew something had to change. And something did, all sparked by trading beloved Brett Lawrie for future MVP Josh Donaldson. What a time to be alive, indeed.

Storytime: 2014 Blue Jays - 19 Innings vs Detroit (Pt. 3)
Our look back at the 2014 Blue Jays, the team that didn't go all in when they could've, hits its pinnacle with the last good moment of the Jays season. A marathon six and a half hour, 19-inning game that ends with a walk off bases loaded single from Jose Bautista. This win, which probably should've kicked off a streak, actually started them down the path of falling out of contention, and is probably the last great moment of the season. Hey remember when extra inning games could go on forever? How many of the 46,000+ fans in attendance that day stuck around for all 19 innings? How many times did the Jays put a ton of Tigers runners on base in the extra 10 innings? Find out as we look back on Sportsfeld Storytime.

This week on Sportsfeld Storytime we continue our look back at the 2014 Blue Jays and their momentous 19 inning win over the Tigers in August, as well as their inevitable collapse. In Part 2, we take you to April of 2014, optimism is in the air, the Blue Jays are playing great despite not really having an infield, and then action at the trade deadline, or lack thereof, sends the season off the rails. The lesson here, as always, is Jose Bautista was right.

Storytime: 2014 Blue Jays - 19 Innings vs Detroit (Pt. 1)
The question about which is the most frustrating Blue Jays season we can remember has come up recently, and we've got to give it up for the 2014 Blue Jays team that frustrated all of us and the entire clubhouse by refusing to make a major move at the deadline. To get there, we start by looking at the big transaction that made us believe in the first place, a massive off-season deal with the Miami Marlins and a follow up trade for reigning Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey that immediately changed the expectations around the team.

Plus we discuss the legacy of Chris Bosh, close the book on the Brian Colangelo era, and welcome DeMar DeRozan. Storytime: Raptors - 2007 Playoffs vs Vince Carter (Pt. 3)
All the focus in the series was on Vincent Lamar Carter (three names, like a serial killer) but it ended up being Richard Jefferson who put the dagger through the heart of the Toronto Raptors and their fans. An unexpected playoff run with a young team ended with a six game loss to the New Jersey Nets, and the big question is... Did the Raptors learn anything or grow or really build anything out of this? Why do I get the feeling the answer is no. Ah, well. Nevertheless.

This week on Sportsfeld Storytime we continue our look back at Game 6 of the 2007 NBA Playoff first round matchup between the Toronto Raptors and the New Jersey Nets. But first, we take a little detour and reminisce about the legend that is Chuck Swirsky and discuss his impact on Raptors fandom in the dark days of the mid-2000s. Then, we begin our look at Games 1 through 5 of the Raptors' first playoff series in five years. A series a long time in the making and an early example of the Raptors Game 1 curse.

Storytime: Raptors - 2007 Playoffs vs Vince Carter (Pt. 1)
A franchise in search of direction after the departure of the only good thing that had ever happened to them, the 2006-07 Toronto Raptors entered the season with a clear leader in Bryan Colangelo, and had the 1st overall pick to boot. A surprise run to a division title and a season to remember, which came to a poetic end at the hands of Vincent Lamar Carter. This week on Sportsfeld Storytime, we finish our look back at Game 1 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Toronto Raptors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. This week, we look at the aftermaths of the Raptors' devastating loss in Game 1 by being absolutely demoralized by LeBron James, given hope by OG Anunoby, and demoralized by LeBron James once again. This was the height of LeBronto, and the end of the DeMar DeRozan and Dwane Casey era of the Raptors. But we all know what would happen next.

JUST TIP IT IN, JONAS! This week on storytime, we relive the unbelievable heartbreaker in Game 1 of the Toronto Raptors second round matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Trying desperately to reverse the "LeBronto" reputation, the Toronto Raptors lead for nearly all of regulation, before missing 11 straight shots down the stretch including 5 attempts in the final seconds to win the game. Instead, LeBron and the Cavs would win in OT and completely dismantle the DeMar DeRozan era.

Storytime: Raptors - 2018 Conference Semifinals vs Cleveland (Pt. 1)
The 2017-18 Toronto Raptors had everything. An 11 man rotation, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the NBA Coach of the Year, an All-Star guard duo, and a run of year-by-year success that seemed to be growing towards them finally getting over the hump and winning the East. The only problem? LeBron Raymone James Sr. In this month's Storytime we relive the 2017-18 season, culminating in the series of missed tip-ins that keep the Raps from winning Game 1 against Cleveland and ultimately bringing in the need for a major shakeup in the organization. In part one, we look back at the regular season, where the Raptors ride continuity to the top of the standings, and two big games in January have us dreaming that maybe it's not so crazy that they can go toe-to-toe with the King.

Storytime: Blue Jays – Brett Lawrie Mania Peaks (Pt.

Storytime: Blue Jays – Brett Lawrie Mania Peaks (Pt.

Storytime: Blue Jays – 2009 Halladay vs Burnett (Pt.

At the start of a new year, we're going back to where it all started for us as sports fans: the incredible 1993 Toronto Blue Jays. In this episode we sort through the 1993 regular season, remember that kids under 10 don't remember regular seasons, gaze in wonderment at John Olerud and Paul Molitor, and shake our heads at the idea of adding Rickey Henderson to a championship level roster. Ah, 1993. The Maple Leafs are great, the Blue Jays are unbeatable, and we don't have to go to work or pay rent or make our own food. It'll be like this forever!

Storytime: Best of 2020 - Leafs vs Blue Jackets Game 4 (Pt. 2)
It iiiiis Sportsfeld Storytime. As soon as we thought we were out, they pulled us back in.

In Part 2 of our look back at our favourite games of 2020, we revisit one of the Leafiest games to ever Leaf. Down 3-0 without a prayer, the Leafs battled back in Game 4 against the Columbus Blue Jackets to force overtime before, spoiler alert, Auston Matthews buried the game winner. And then it was completely ruined by losing Game 5. As we said, very Leafy.

Storytime: Best of 2020 - Blue Jays vs Yankees (Pt.1)
It is Sportsfeld Storytime! We're celebrating the end of the year by looking back at our favourite games of 2020. The first pick goes to Zubes, who picked the September 7th Blue Jays comeback against the New York Yankees. In one of few bad Hyun-Jin Ryu starts, the Jays turned things around with a ridiculous 10-run 6th inning to beat the Yankees in the very first meeting of the season between the two teams. It was the 2020 Jays in a nutshell: somehow over performing and underperforming at the same time. At the very least, they were always exciting.

Plus Canada gets a scare from the Swiss, gets beat down by the States, and gets a big win against the Russians. And finally, what does Donyell Marshall have to do with the 2010 Olympic semi-finals? Storytime: Blue Jays - 2015 ALCS vs Kansas City (Pt. 3)
It iiiiiis Sportsfeld Storytime. This month we are revisiting the end of one of our favourite teams ever, the 2015 Blue Jays. In episode three, the Jays play their final game of the season, a crazy loss to the Kansas City Royals that had just about everything. Jake and Zubes remember the Amish kid that cheated and stole a home run, two mammoth near-forgotten Jose Bautista home runs, a giant rain delay, and the general unfair shittiness of the Royals. It's a good old fashion angry episode, as this is easily the worst playoff game of our adult lives. Fun to relive!

Storytime: Blue Jays - 2015 ALCS vs Kansas City (Pt. 1)
The time has come once again to look back fondly on the 2015 Blue Jays. This time, the guys look back at a time they had blocked out of their memory: how the series against the Kansas City Royals came undone. Remember that Amish kid with the glove? The opposite field singles? The Ryan Goins missed pop up? We're putting ourselves through all of that again. But first, in episode one, all the fond fuzzy memories of how a .500 team made their first playoff run in more than two decades and brought baseball back to life in the city. Pop a fresh drink, slurp, and let yourself travel back to 2015 one more time with Sportsfeld Storytime.

In the final episode of our look back on the Raptors run to the 2016 Conference Finals, we look at the aftermath of the loss. From the acquisition of Serge Ibaka to the firing of Dwane Casey. From getting swept by LeBron to getting swept by LeBron again. We take a look at what could have been had JV made that shot in 2018, and discuss the reaction to the acquisition of Kawhi. It's been a long road for the Raptors, but at least it was never boring.

Storytime: Blue Jays - David Price's First Start (Pt. 2)
It iiiiiiiis Sportsfeld Storytime. This month, Jake and Zubes take a trip all the way back to August of 2015 to talk about a team that doesn't get enough press, the 2015 Toronto Blue Jays. Before the bat flip, before the AL East title, before the heartbreak, the focus was on one man and his Blue Jays debut. Yes, we are talking about the one, the only David Price. Take yourself back to a Monday afternoon game in early August to a sold out Skydome and David Price's first start as a Blue Jay. In the first episode, the guys take a look at where the 2015 Blue Jays were before the Price trade, talk some run differential, and talk some Troy Tulowitzki.

Join Jake & Zubes as they take us back to a time when the entire province was waiting on every puck drop and the Cup looked right within our grasp.

Storytime: Blue Jays - 2016 Wild-Card vs Baltimore (Pt. 4)
The fall of 2016 was a time when all were wondering who the Blue Jays were and what exactly they could do. The previous year had brought the city to a high that hadn't been witnessed since 1993, but this was a new year and a team that had undergone much change. It took the Jays until game 162 to earn their Wild Card slot and the only thing standing in the way of a second straight divisional series appearance was the Baltimore Orioles. In this exclusive Patreon series we examine a Wild Card game that had equal parts excitement, anxiety and drama.

And in part four the Blue Jays go one to win the World Series.... right? One can only dream. Jake and Zubes wrap up the 2016 post-season and look at what happened to that 2016 team that gave us all so much joy. An even mix of distance from the past and optimism for the future, hopes for the 2020 roster start to leak out.

Part three is ready for your listening ears. This was a do-or-die game that had absolutely everything in it. It had outstanding pitching, it had impressive fielding, it had a manager who didn't know how to make proper use of his bullpen and it had... Ken Pagan. Don't remember Ken Pagan? Don't worry, Jake and Zubes will help refresh your memory.

In this series we examine a Wild Card game that had equal parts excitement, anxiety and drama.

Part two brings you the opening seven (SEVEN) innings of the game that included a stellar performance from the Jays starting pitcher, Marcus Stroman and timely fielding from some of your favourites. Jake recalls how everything good happened while he was in line getting beer, and Zubes shares what life in the press-box was like during those opening innings.

In part one, Jake and Zubes set the stage by reminding themselves of all the ho-hum moments that the 2016 Blue Jays brought; lack-lustre trades and disappointing series alike. Relive the feelings experienced when the Jays punched their ticket to the Wild Card game and board the rollercoaster ahead of a wild card ride that all these years later is still worth revisiting.

Storytime: Maple Leafs - 2013 Playoffs vs Boston (Pt. 4)
It's a game that will later be crowned the Game of the Decade by the NHL. After a lengthy playoff drought, the Maple Leafs are back in the post-season. They are the Eastern Conference's fifth seed and face the Boston Bruins in a best of seven series. In this series, relive the highs and all the many lows of a game that for roughly 55 minutes seemed like Toronto was destined to win.

Storytime: Maple Leafs - 2013 Playoffs vs Boston (Pt. 3)

Storytime: Maple Leafs - 2013 Playoffs vs Boston (Pt. 2)
