Amy grows concerned when Michelle attempts to cast a spell on her father’s new girlfriend and frames Amy for shoplifting at the local store. This is bonkers. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, the image of your child’s face helplessly peering out the rear window of a stranger's car as it drives away from you and slips into the unknown. For Kay and Dilbert Stayner, this nightmare became a reality when their seven-year-old son, Steven, was kidnapped on his way home from school in Merced, CA, in 1972. For seven long years, Steven’s family searched for him while he was living in northern California with his abductor, Kenneth Parnell. Steven’s story is one of tragedy, sorrow, and unexpected heroism as he plotted his escape and saved the life of Parnell’s newest victim, five-year-old Timmy White. Steven’s story was captured in the very popular 1989 mini-series, I Know My First Name is Steven.
But the Stayner family’s story doesn’t end with them reuniting with their son after seven long years. In a bizarre twist, more tragedy befalls this family as Steven’s older brother sets out to make a name for himself in the most horrific way.

Ma and Pa leave town for a bang trip and leave the children in Edward’s care. What could go wrong? Edwards almost shoots the girls, never changes his clothes, shoots a snake and makes the girls eat it, and nails Carrie to the roof. Meanwhile on the bang trip, Pa is really frustrated as Caroline’s mind is on Walnut Grove and not much else. Bottom line: this is a wasted chance for hotel sex.

The bonds put the people of Walnut Grove in her debt, and Harriet uses this to her advantage. When she puts Nels up to run for mayor, Almonzo decides to run against him. It goes as you’d suspect. We meet some older randos waiting for death, including the dude from the American Gothic painting.

Things take a turn, however, and poor little Jason Bateman gets Little Housed when he is shot during a bank robbery in progress. Pa starts up a posse with the help of Ride or Die and they chase the robbers to a tumbleweed town named Sulfur, where things end in gun play. Enjoy this reused Bonanza script!

In Season 8, episode 9: For the Love of Nancy, Elmer Miles, a sweet boy who happens to be overweight, comes to Walnut Grove where his life is made miserable. The school kids of WG cannot stop themselves from mistreating this kid. Even Albert, with his new friend, Ray Liotta, is involved in this. Nancy uses Elmer's crush on her to her advantage and ends up alienating him even further from the other kids. In the end, Albert decrees that "hey, we all have bad traits- we just need to accept one another." WRONG, Albert. Amye lives in the rage corner and Jennie posits a theory that Landon was recreating the golden 50's in Walnut Grove.

In the summer of 1999, while Jennie and Amye were off being poor and lame, 250,000 kids attended what promoters hoped would be an historic once-in-a-generation concert: Woodstock 99. This three-part docuseries exposes poor planning, willful ignorance, and an amazing amount of hubris on the part of (mostly) two men: Michael Lang and John Scher, aka Darth Vader. This was the perfect display of a generational clash between Gen X and Boomers. In the end, a hologram of Jimi Hendrix played as Rome burned.

Join us as we remember the 80’s, a time of unregulated anarchy, at least for a bunch of teenagers in New Jersey. Action Park’s lawlessness became legend, and after watching this HBO MAX documentary, it’s obvious as to why. We are stunned by Uncle Gene, a mythical figure to the employees of the park who pretty much laid down their lives for him-and for a 100$ bill, and an irresponsible monster to others, mostly parents of those teenagers. We reflect on the Gen X pastime of trying to die for fun, agree that NJ isn’t sending us their best (sorry, NJ), and we realize Action Park could only be possible in the 80’s.

In Season 8, episode 5: A Wiser Heart, Eliza Jane and Laura travel to Arizona for some continuing education credits. We meet a very handsome, but slimy professor who macs on Laura and doesn’t seem to care that Eliza Jane has an awkward 8th grade crush on him. The trip turns into a nightmare for Laura as she is forced to wash dishes for Sally Spectra and share a small bed with Eliza Jane. Eliza Jane, meanwhile, is all into the pompous professor while the sweet and super smart Mortimer Carstairs pines for her from a distance. Laura seems to forget she’s pregnant, Manly is suddenly super liberal, and we have an academic off between two bloated egos.

In season 8, episode 4, Doc Baker is overwhelmed with patients- both human and horse- and must hire an associate. Caleb LeDoux and his wife, Mattie, show up to relieve Doc, which should solve everything except…they’re Black. Harriet is her awful self, Nels has zero power, and Charles has to punch another townsperson out in order to save a baby. In the end, the fine people of Walnut Grove almost run off this super qualified doctor and his wife, until Rev saves the day. Despite the LeDouxs committing to staying in WG forever, we never see them again.
In other news, we address the current state of the country after some SCOTUS rulings, Amye hands out some medical advice, and Jennie has gotten her hands on some German graph paper.

In Season 8, Episode 2, The Reincarnation of Nellie Part Two, Nancy continues to terrorize the town and has her sights set on Albert’s newest crush, Jan from the Office. Jan nearly dies after Nancy locks her in the ice house, then nearly dies again as Doc Baker experiments on her. Nancy concocts a traumatic backstory to win the town’s empathy, only Charles discovers the truth and narcs her out. In the end, even though she really did have some childhood trauma, the entire town bands together to humiliate her publicly.
Amye has taken over production duties and everything has been thrown into chaos, Jennie’s favorite Disney hero is Ursula, and we give a brief preview of what’s coming up in season eight!

In one of the wildest episodes in a while, Michael Landon recreates the Sanderson storyline with Jason Bateman and Cassandra Cooper. The Cooper children are orphaned after witnessing a horrific wagon accident in which their parents die right in front of their eyes. Charles, once again straddled with orphans, must find a home for these adorable kids.

Laura and Manly hit a rough patch as his impulse purchase of a dirt field comes back to haunt him. Harve is an absolute monster who spends weeks telling Eliza Jane how great she is-only to marry someone else and disappear. For some reason, Mary and Adam’s anniversary brings the whole town together and in the grossest miscarriage of justice ever, Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder, the classic lovers, get a quickie wedding ceremony in a blind school by a broke-down preacher. 1990 was a wild year for the pop group Milli Vanilli. Rob and Fab, both singers and dancers, started the year by winning the Grammy for Best New Artist for their very popular album, Girl You Know It’s True. By the end of the year, they were the laughing stock of the music world, mocked on late night TV, sued by disgruntled fans (or fan, as at least one guy from Texas was really mad), and left penniless by their label. Their lip-syncing scandal is still considered one of the most discussed musical downfalls, and it has ended in tragedy for at least one of the members of the group. It’s the first part of the blind school fire! Join us as we relive our deepest childhood trauma. Mary’s baby is out of time as he is left to his own devices when Albert and some rando light the blind school on fire. Alice is the only one who tries to save the baby, but then uses him as a battering ram and gets nowhere. Little House ends the season with a big ol’ downer. We meet Dylan, a moody kid who sits in the woods and paints while reciting Homer and dreaming of the ocean. In other words, teenage Amye’s perfect high school boyfriend. Dylan is diagnosed with leukemia and ropes Laura and Albert into accompanying him on a mission to see the Pacific before he dies. Carrie definitely played with Duplo blocks, Albert is a terrible train thief, and Pa beats the crap out of some rando. Jennie fails miserably at her index card...thank God Amye was there to pick up her slack.

Jennie’s former woodshop teacher is at the writing helm again this week! After feeling some warmth from a window, Mary believes she is regaining her sight. She’s really eager to ditch the blind school to which she just committed her life, and Adam is not happy about it. Laura and Albert destroy Edward’s bachelor shack, Doc Baker knows nothing, and Pa battles and finally defeats the end boss: Mary 1.0, while Caroline merely wounds and weakens Adam 1.0. Jennie is rewatching Schitt’s Creek, and Amye continues to obsess over Young Guns II.

Nels is stunned when Harriet buys Kazia’s lake house out from under her-does he forget who he married? Laura and her posse, who frequent the lake house to hear sea shanties and tales of The Lochness Monster, are determined to scare the Olesons from their beloved Kezia’s home. Rev once again demonstrates great judgement when he brings a bunch of kids along for a dramatic eviction, and Jonathon Garvey has terrible taste in decor. Jennie contemplates biting strangers’ legs for a mortgage payoff and Amye goes on a boring rant about property taxes.

The mediocre writing continues as we are dragged into episode two of this story arc. Having completed half of the journey from Winoka to the new blind school in Walnut Grove, the “blind school brigade” must face a deadly challenge in the form of a calm, shallow river. Adam hulks out in a moment of PTSD, Joe Kagan creeps on Hester Sue, and Harriet turns out to not be a bigot after all. Oh, and Carrie prays to a chicken wing. It's moving time for the blind school, yet we spend the first twenty minutes of the episode exploring horrific racism. Seems the good christians of Walnut Grove don't want to let Joe Kagan pray in their church. Then, we learn another good christian man, Standish, is buying the blind school out from under Mary and Adam. In both scenarios, Pa saves the day- to no one's surprise. In the second part of “Mary Goes Blind,” we meet Adam, a sassy, straight-talking teacher who shows Mary some tough love and then inappropriate love as they begin a student/teacher romance. As Mary navigates the world of the blind, Walnut Grove continues to fall apart without its star pupil. In the end, the Ingalls family decides to pack up the team and follow Mary and Adam to Winoka. Jennie is fresh off of Happy Hour and has an index card four minutes in, and Mary is definitely in rehab-which Jennie immediately recognized.

Join us as we rewind to the glory days of video rental in our coverage of Netflix's 2020 Documentary: The Last Blockbuster. The story centers around the "Blockbuster Mom," Sandi, and her dedication to the lone surviving Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon. When professional boxer, Joe Kagan, shows up in Walnut Grove, everyone wants a piece of the $50 purse for lasting three rounds with the prize fighter. Everyone, except Charles. Nellie manages to bully half the town into taking the bet-including her own father, and after a self-inflicted wound sidelines Garvey, Charles is forced into the ring-why? We aren’t sure. Amye hates boxing and wishes Rocky movies didn’t have “the fighting parts,” Jennie refuses to do an index card on Nels, and we disagree over what Amye thinks is a terrible ending.

There’s a mystery brewing in Walnut Grove and Laura is right in the middle of it, as you would expect. Someone is swiping food from the townspeople, but things go too far when someone kidnaps Matilda, Caroline’s prize hen. Laura and Garvey bundle this investigation, causing actual harm to Pa, Harriet, and others. This episode has it all: Some Olesons’ hijinx, a predominantly featured rando, and some shirtless Pa. Pa and Mr. Edwards decide to take the families west to gold country after Walnut Grove gets a f*ck ton of rain. They first land in Deadwood where Carl’s JR, Edwards (and Jennie) would fit right in, but end up going on to a small, quiet replica of Walnut Grove. When they and their new rando best friends start hitting the color, this sleepy town turns into the next Deadwood, and chaos ensues. Caroline tries to teach in the middle of a bar fight, Laura and Carl’s JR commit manslaughter, and Pa has to bury ANOTHER body. Amye does a really bad Italian accent, and Jennie recaps a Poison video.

Jack earns his title as second most hated pet when he causes Mary to get kicked by a horse and almost die. This is the beginning of Mary’s martyrdom, as she insists she’s fine before collapsing in an intense jump rope competition with Nellie. Doc Baker once again fails to diagnose this condition and resorts to fat shaming for good measure. Charles and Caroline take Mary to Rochester which is a million miles away. Jennie says something kind about church, we are horrified to learn Carrie’s real age, and Amye calls out Michael Landon on some problematic casting. This week’s episode hits a little too close to home as the residents of Walnut Grove are under strict quarantine orders to avoid the spread of Mountain Fever. As expected, they completely boggle this pandemic: Doc Baker heads out of town, Edwards drinks from a rando’s bottle and almost kills everyone, and Laura can’t mind her own business long enough to survive a week. Amye relives the trauma of catching the “funk” from her own rando bottle-sharing, Jennie is DONE with Carrie and her tragic bangs, and Hanson has even more power than we realized.

John Jr grows even more insufferable this episode as he stops to ponder EVERYTHING, even a hawk flying overhead, which results in a full poetry scholarship to University. Edwards struggles to understand basic grown-up emotions and struggles with John Jr’s “thinkin.” While Grace, hero of the episode, encourages John Jr to get an education. Charles offers up Mary as a child bride, which puzzles us since we didn’t even know they were in love, and Carl’s Jr is once again overlooked...like ten times. Finally, Amye goes on a rant about the publishing industry.

In this second installment of our Crown Season 4 coverage, we focus on episodes 3, 4, & 5: Fairytale, Favourites, and Fagan. Charles and Diana are getting married, and we see Diana happy for a brief moment. We both feel bad for everyone involved, including Camilla. It’s another drama-filled episode as Miss Beadle almost kills the children of Walnut Grove by letting them out of school just as a blizzard hits. Charles snaps into hero mode, but later abandons his Ride or Die. There is a festival of randos who blatantly embezzle money from their own business and enable Edwards’ drinking problem by paying him in hooch. We have a good, inappropriate laugh at frozen children, and fight about whether or not Mary actually saves Laura and Carrie. Another episode, another rando family. This time it’s a cranky Burl Ives and his awful son. Welcome to the greatest episode of Little House ever made...well, in season three anyway. The rando Galander brothers show up in Walnut Grove and wreak havoc on a town still healing from Fred’s reign of terror. The youngest Galander terrorizes the school yard while his much older brothers swindle the Olesons and Hanson out of goods and services. But things get real in Walnut Grove when the Galanders come for Caroline. This episode ends with most of Walnut Grove battered and bloodied sitting in church watching Rev Alden beat people up. Join us for the best episode of Little House ever! After working for a neighbor, Laura agrees to take his renegade billy goat as payment. The cleverly named Fred ends up being Satan in goat form however, as he terrorizes the unsuspecting citizens of Walnut Grove. Fred makes his way through the town head butting people, undoing Pa’s hard work, and eating Mary’s homework. Laura and Carl try to pawn the goat off on everyone from Rev Alden to Mrs. Oleson, to no avail. Mr. Edwards opens The Rum Shack, Doc Baker is no help as usual, and Laura learns what it’s like to be ditched for a group of hot babes. Amye gets some shirtless Pa action, and Jennie passionately defends Fred- because of course she does.

Amye tries to resist, but eventually falls for 1986’s Tom Cruise as Maverick, a Top Gun fighter pilot with a grossly-inflated ego. She doesn’t stand a chance, however, against Kelly McGillis who is a whole five years older than him and is apparently robbing the cradle. The beautiful California coastline with its eight-hour sunsets is the backdrop for our story about a group of boys, er...men, competing for the title of Top Ego. Tom Cruise just can’t seem to stay inside the lines as he plays volleyball in a bomber jacket, rides a motorcycle without a helmet, and does something with a MIG that we don’t understand. Did we mention he’s a Maverick?

The Shakespearean tragedy that is Charles’ family continues as Lansford settles into life in Walnut Grove. Things go sideways when Pa has to shoot Bunny and Lansford attempts to stop him. Laura plays Pa Roulette and loses. Jennie is forced to issue an apology (which she later rescinds), and lines up a Thanksgiving day challenge for our parents. Amye grows angry at Laura’s love for her grandfather. Lansford lacks the upper body strength to leave town, and Laura goes missing….again.

Good news, despite Amazon’s description, there is no inappropriate relationship between Mary and Granville. Mary is just his best student, because of course she is. Journey with us back to 1984, as we follow the tale of Daniel LaRusso and his bully Johnny, who wears his shorts WAY too short, even for the 80’s. Daniel and his mom move from the crowded, rude, hellscape that is the east coast to beautiful, sunny California, where everyone is friendly and helpful--nope. Instead, Daniel is welcomed by being run off the road on his bicycle (yes, a kid’s bicycle) by guys on motorcycles who are 3-4 years older than him, because that’s badass. He decides to fight back by learning karate, from a book... His “elderly” super, who is 55 and happens to be a karate master, learns of Daniel’s dilemma and decides to take on this project and get some help with chores around the house. We learn of Jennie’s karate career and Amye insists that no one who went to this movie wanted to watch a movie about karate. They challenge Johnny and his dojo, who are all obviously on extra doses of testosterone, to a battle in an upcoming tournament. Daniel lives. Cut to black.

In this episode, otherwise known as the “Caroline almost chops her leg off” or “Caroline’s self-surgery” episode, Caroline gets a day alone to relax and bake 15 pies but her bliss is interrupted by a near-death experience, because of course it is. She almost dies from an infected scratch which she got from Pa’s shoddy workmanship on his wagon and Rev Alden’s inability to fundraise. We try to figure out who the a-hole is who distracted Doc Baker from treating Caroline, but fail and we now realize that all old-timey guys and their sons look the same to us. We also don’t recognize cows. Timmy chimes in (no one asked) on the quality of the Ingalls’ roof and Amye accepts the challenge to set a bonfire in her field with no matches after 2 days of pounding rain.

Nellie and Laura find themselves in a love triangle with a young Beck look-alike who thinks he’s Thomas Edison. All hell breaks loose when Willie helps Nellie record Laura without her knowledge on what we are considering the first cell phone. Mary misses a prime opportunity to kick Nellie’s butt and instead comforts Laura in a painfully uncomfortable and uncharacteristic moment. Pa builds a green roof on the barn and fails at Pawn Stars. A very young Albert makes a cameo and we ask ourselves, did Laura “trapes” in the books? Amye is confused by basic scientific concepts and Jennie names “The Drama Barn.”

Little House gets all Ozarks in this episode when Laura and Jonah embark on a plan to collect what they believe is gold from the river. Jonah seems like a liability at first, but turns out to be a solid lieutenant when he “borrows” the Olsen’s entire screen door to improve their panning operation. Amye rewrites the script and renames the episode a few times. Jennie reveals a passion for the metric system and rock shows-and not the cool kind. Laura and Jonah get a harsh slap of reality from Mr. Sprague and a valuable lesson in geology, when they learn that they’ve been tricked by fool’s gold.

Through some plot writing sorcery, the Ingalls family and the Olesons end up on a camping trip together. Much to Pa’s dismay, even his juvenile temper tantrum doesn’t prevent Harriet from coming along. Laura and Mary join forces against a common enemy as they let Harriet and Willie rub poison ivy all over themselves. Nellie falls into a river that is 6 inches deep and Laura tries to help her (fool) but she still almost drowns, and Pa has to search for that damn kid again. Amye discovers the mechanism by which a river travels downhill and we both relive our traumatic camping experiences.

History of the Name: The Me-Me B's was an exclusive social club created by Amye at the age of four. The name Me-Me came from Amye's inability to pronounce her own name. The B represented the first initial of her last name. The club consisted of Amye's then-closest friends and cousins and she reluctantly trusted and included her older sister, Jennie.
The Me-Me B's thrived for about a week before a darkness fell over the group. In what could only be described as the scorchiest dick move of all time, Jennie staged a coup in which she overthrew Amye as President and Founder, and then proceeded to exile her from her own club.

Mary almost burns down the barn and that’s the least dramatic part of this episode. Ma redeems herself in Amye’s eyes when she pulls animals out of the burning barn in her nightgown.
