The President of the United Nations General Assembly will convene Heads of State and Government for the 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, also known as the SDG Summit. This significant event will take place on Monday, September 18th, and Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, under the auspices of the General Assembly.

The SDG Summit serves as a pivotal milestone in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, marking the halfway point of its implementation. It presents a crucial opportunity to accelerate our collective efforts towards sustainable development.

As the centerpiece of the High-level Week of the General Assembly, the SDG Summit will address the complex challenges our world faces due to various interconnected crises. Its objective is to rekindle hope, optimism, and enthusiasm for the 2030 Agenda.

During the Summit, nations will have the opportunity, both individually and collectively, to steer the world towards a sustainable development trajectory. The international community can leverage this moment to usher in transformative changes in how societies produce, consume, and share benefits and risks, all while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The Summit's primary focus is on forward-looking, action-oriented initiatives aimed at expediting international actions that enhance people's lives and revitalize the sense of hope, optimism, and enthusiasm that characterized the adoption of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. Its expected outcome is the adoption of a concise, action-oriented political declaration.

The SDG Summit, taking place at the 78th United Nations General Assembly, marks the halfway point of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“This is a moment of solidarity for our global village at our global Town Hall — the United Nations,” said Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. “With only 15% of the SDG targets on track, it is time to come together to find just and equitable solutions and take them to scale.”

During high-level week of the General Assembly, the SDG Pavilion will host a series of Halftime Talks — a collaborative mix of panel discussions, lightning talks, demonstrations, and films, as well as artistic performances focused on just and equitable solutions.

The UN Office for Partnerships is working with Project Everyone, a not-for-profit communications agency co-founded by SDG Advocate and screenwriter Richard Curtis, in collaboration with renowned artist Es Devlin, to create the SDG Pavilion, a unique convening space and art exhibition.

To use a sporting analogy, the world is down halftime. However, the good news is that any given match is won in the second half. The SDG Pavilion programming encourages participants to imagine winning.
