Welcome to StudyBall! I have to mention this for all of you out there: I don’t make these videos to attack any individual, I don’t make these to say “this person should be fired” or “this person isn’t any good.” I make these to TEACH. To teach all of you about what is going on, the details of the game to allow people to learn from it. It’s so funny to me that people hit me up and say “you only talk about my team in a negative light.” Every week, I do a couple videos about the things that jump out or the hot topics! That, to me, is what I’m trying to do every week. I can back up the narrative that’s out there or I can change the narrative based on what’s going on. As always, to get it back to the people that can use it no matter who. Fans from the high school level all the way to the pro level that can use it to get better. I am not here to trash on anyone! I want all of these guys to be successful doing what they are doing. If they can watch a video and learn and get better, great! But these are not highlight videos or bashing videos. They are simply teaching lessons of the position!
Sorry if any of you are offended by the videos I make! But this is never looked at as negative or positive. I don’t go in every week and only do negatives on so and so. Or a positive one on so and so. I check out what is on the tape, what stands out to me, where I think I can teach the most. And that’s the content you get.
Another big topic this week was the Vikings, Justin Jefferson and the way he played, Kirk Cousins leading them to the top record with the Eagles! Let’s dive into the tape with the huge win in Buffalo. Let’s take a look at Kirk Cousins and company and what they did well! Yes, they got a big win but this video also highlights where they can improve going forward if they are going to be a team that can contend for a championship!
I am going to state that again: I played the game and threw a lot of interceptions. It was something I didn’t worry about! I know we talk a lot about touchdowns and interception ratio. But I always felt if I was aggressive and I was forcing the defense to play on their heels, worried about me attacking down the field on every throw, it would lead to some mistakes and some interceptions. But I believe it would soften the defense and threaten them to the point where they played on their heels and we would make more plays and big plays because of that! We would ultimately win games even though there were mistakes involved. I still believe that’s the way to play the game. We don’t want to throw 4 interceptions a game, turn the ball over all the time, etc. that’s never going to be successful. But playing aggressively. Look at the best quarterbacks in the league. They attack down the field, threatening you at every moment. Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson. Those guys are the ones looking to attack down the field at all times and they will settle for the things underneath, but they stay aggressive.
Kirk Cousins, in the past, has stopped being aggressive and has looked to complete all the passes to make the positive plays but not be aggressive and attack down the field. You saw it in this game. Had a couple of interceptions and a couple more that could’ve been intercepted. But it was his ability to attack down the field. Be aggressive and stay confident that will lead to them winning this game against a good football team. That Kirk Cousins has a chance to win and to take this team deep into the playoffs and maybe even to a Super Bowl. You have got to continue to play that way and believe that you can make those kinds of throws and they are going to pay dividends even when you make a couple of mistakes in the game. Don’t let those mistakes change the way you play, I like what you are capable of doing with the football, you have the weapons to help you at times when you make those mistakes. To bail you out. I had those guys too! It led to a lot of success and opportunities to play in the Super Bowl.
