Peter Windsor guides us through an epic Singapore GP - a race ultimately won with great skill by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz but characterised throughout by razor-sharp tension and swirling variables. There was the initial intra-team battle between the two Ferrari drivers - Sainz and Charles Leclerc. There was the mid-race fight between Sainz and Mercedes' George Russell. There was Mercedes' decision to stop their drivers again for a switch back to medium Pirelli tyres; and there was the spellbinding closing phase of the race, marked by the deteriorating tyres on the Sainz Ferrari; the McLaren of Lando Norris, sitting remorselessly in the mirrors of the Ferrari; the dazzling speed of the Mercedes as they closed-down the gap to the leaders; and, on the last lap, the crucial error of George Russell, as he tried every which way to pass the McLaren of Norris. Sainz it was, then, who won gloriously for Ferrari in this most exotic of F1 venues - and so ended Red Bull's extraordinary 2023 winning run. For his part, Max Verstappen, after a difficult qualifying session, drove fast and well into P5, almost beating the Leclerc Ferrari as the chequered flag waved. In the immediate afterglow of this titanic race, Peter Windsor in this video offers his thoughts.
