The stock market was sent into a flurry after hours as news of PacWest Bancorp pursuing strategic options rattled investors. Following a volatile day of rate hikes and press conference from Jerome Powell, the news after hours is stoking the flames for more bank fears as another bank is potentially on the verge of collapse, just days after FRC. PACW stock dropped over 50% on the news and S&P futures fell over .5% after an almost 1% drop on the day. We will see how this effects Powell's recent comments, but it looks like we are going to have a volatile session coming into the FOMC digestion & AAPL earnings.
I also go over the rate hike announcement today and my views on the FOMC. A lot of people saw this as the pause announcement, but given the divergence between bonds and stocks so far, as well as the lack of explicitly guidance from Powell. I think we may have to wait until the June FOMC.
