In this livestream, where we're venturing into the very heart of Oiyama-narashi, the dress rehearsal event that echoes the grand finale of the 15-day festival, Oiyama. Our journey will begin INSIDE Kushida Shrine in the special “sajiki” reserved seats to watch the awe-inspiring Kakiyama floats from each of the seven districts are successively presented at the Kushida-shrine, in a ceremony known as Kushida-iri. Getting these seats was a major score and will give you an almost front-row seat to the start of one of the best events of Yamakasa.

Joining me as commentator again is Makoto Fujii, who partook in Yamakasa as boy until his teens. Makoto speaks English fluently, so feel free to shoot us questions in the live chat or comments!

More about the “yamanarashi”, it’s during this pivotal time, the drama unfolds with the intense selection process known as Bōzeri, where aspiring participants compete fiercely for the esteemed honor of carrying the Kakiyama. Each stride taken, each determined face, is a testament to the significance of this role.

Today's course is akin to Oiyama's, albeit shortened to a 4 km stretch, winding through the bustling streets of Hakata, leading us from the historic Kushida Shrine. As the day progresses, the atmosphere is energized, much like the Oiyama, yet uniquely marked by the backdrop of daylight.
