Did you know that the United States military developed a man-portable kamikaze drone that can launch itself at enemy positions, tanks, and artillery pieces? While the drone has been in development since 2004, the US has been quietly testing it ever since.
The drone comes in two sizes. The smaller five-pound one is made for armored vehicles and gun positions, while the larger ten-pound variant is for tanks. The operator can let it fly out of their hand or fire it from a mortar-type launcher to deploy it. Once airborne, a second operator on the ground controls the drone via a remote console. After sighting the target, the drone can fly between six to ten kilometers away at 65 to 110 miles per hour.
Additionally, the drone has 15 minutes of flight time to hover close to the ground or behind cover, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The drones are also smart enough to abort their mission if the operator detects civilians in the target area.
