A 9/11 Tribute and Story of Great Sacrifice, Patriotism and Resilience with Jordan Stevenson

On September 10th, 2001, all of us who were alive at that time went to bed not realizing that the next day the whole world would change, but for some the world would change more than for others.

The next day as planes began crashing into buildings our first responders began to run into burning collapsing buildings while others were running out them.

In other places military men and women began to ready themselves to find and eliminate those who would seek to do us harm. As we approach the anniversary of that life altering day we are doing an episode to pay tribute to those who put their life on the line for us each day.

Sitting in a high school class in Northern California on 9/11 was a star athlete named Jordan Stevenson. Jordan was one of those who in future days would choose to serve his country during a time when he knew he would go to war. While serving in Afghanistan he was shot in the head, was in a coma for months and then woke up to the right side of his body being paralyzed. His story of resilience, recovery, and the way he is using his platform to bring hope to his fellow service people and others going through a difficult time is incredible.

Thank you, Jordan, and thank you so all of those who put their life on the line for us each day. We hope that you joy this interview with Jordan Stephenson.

How Can Sports Help Us Build Resilience w/ Mason Sawyer

On July 25th 2021 Mason Sawyers life would change forever. Because of a sudden dust storm. A horrible crash occurred while Mason's family was returning from a family reunion that he was unable to attend. Mason's wife Kortni, children Riggins and Franki, brother Race, and nephew Ryder were killed. His son Blue survived. The way that Mason has responded to this unspeakable tragedy is inspiring. One of the things that has helped him the most is some of the simple lessons he learned while playing sports. This is an incredible story of resilience that highlights the most valuable reasons we help our children play sports.

Here is an article about the crash:

Using Sports to Help Raise Victors Instead of Victims

Today we are going to talk about raising victors instead of victims. When bad or unfortunate events happen the only thing we have control of is our response. When we dwell too much on the unfortunate event instead of the response it leads to bad outcomes. This is very applicable in those car ride discussions on the way home from a tough game.

Oftentimes young people play sports to have fun with others and to get to know other people. But sometimes they do not have the best experience because their teammates or coach tease, make fun or and bully them and it is so hurtful. We will talk about it in this week's episode.

An incredible Example of Resilience from a High School Soccer Player Duncan Jarvie

A few years back, then 14-year-old Duncan Jarvie, was cut from Utah's Olympic Development Program's competitive team. His response was inspiring and a great example of resilience. We interviewed him and also reflected on what former college basketball player and long-time high school basketball coach Doug Meachum and Tampa Bay Ray's mental performance coach Justin Sua taught about resilience. This would be a great episode to share with an athlete who was recently cut or one who is experiencing adversity. Enjoy!

At a time when women are being killed in Afghanistan for daring to play sports, are we really going to spend time making fun of Elite Women Athletes who just won an WNBA Championship because not enough people showed up to their parade? Pretty shallow. In this episode we talk with E4A Board Member and former WNBA Player and College Basketball coach Alli Bills about the importance of supporting women's sports. We talk about what men and boys can do to support women and honor their achievements. She also talks about the importance of skill development in today's youth and how to help them find their passion. It was an amazing interview.
