明德水庫是第一座由國人自行規劃、設計、興建的滾壓式水壩。民國五十四年七月興工，民國五十八年八月竣工，以農業灌溉為主，灌溉頭屋、造橋、後龍三鄉鎮1682公頃農田。 日新島是明德水庫最主要的休憩景點，有兩座吊橋連絡水庫的南北岸。
The Mingde Reservoir is the first rolling dam planned, designed, and built by domestic engineers. Construction started in July of the 54th year of the Republic of China (1965) and was completed in August of the 58th of the year of the Republic of China (1969). It was mainly for agricultural irrigation, irrigating 1682 hectares of farmland in Touwu, Zaoqiao, Houlong Townships.Rixin Island is the main resting spot of Mingde Reservoir. There are two suspension bridges connecting the north and south banks of the reservoir.

★ Mass Transportation: Take Miaoli Bus 5801, 5802 from Hsinchu Railway Station or Miaoli Railway Station to Mingde Station.
