Pingtung County, the southernmost county in all of Taiwan, and the county with the most tropical climates. In recent years, due to a flailing economy and rising crime rates, Pingtung has dropped to second to last in Global Views Monthly magazine’s competitiveness list. But not all is lost. Since Taiwan started its push to become a tourist destination, the Pingtung County government has actively pivoted to a more tourism-based economy. Pingtung’s high-quality exports of black pearl wax apples, cacao, and black tuna are starting to get recognized around the world. Today, Hahatai takes you to the areas of Dong Gang, Pingtung City, and Chaozhou to present the leisurely people of daytime Pingtung.
