André Braugher, who passed away at the age of 61, was best remembered for his roles as Detective Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on the Street and Captain Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Electronic Weekly is able to report that Braugher passed away on Monday after a brief illness.
Despite the fact that Braugher was known for his severe on-screen approach and his loud voice, his steady and authoritative presence allowed him to be successful in both comedy and drama. As a result of his training in theater at Stanford and Juilliard, he made his debut on the big screen in the Civil War drama Glory, which was released in 1989. In this film, he appeared alongside Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Matthew Broderick. He then went on to assume the role of Detective Winston Blake in a revival of Kojack not long after that.
The police drama Homicide: Life on the Street, which was shown on NBC, featured Braugher in the role of Detective Frank Pembleton from 1993 to 2018. He was nominated for an Emmy in 1996, but he was ultimately successful in winning the award in 1998 for his work on the show. After his stint on the program came to an end, Braugher went on to become a series regular on a number of other shows that did not last very long. These shows included Gideon's Crossing, Hack, and Men of a Certain Age. It was in 2006 that he was awarded yet another Emmy for his efforts in the miniseries Thief.
During the latter part of his career, Braugher experienced a revival thanks to the comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which utilized his unflinching seriousness for the purpose of producing incredible comedic effect. As a result of his appearances in 153 episodes spanning the eight seasons of the show, Braugher's character, Captain Holt, who is both austere and multidimensional, ultimately proved to be his longest-running personality.
There are a number of high-profile films in which Braugher has acted in supporting roles, such as Primal Fear, Spike Lee's Get on the Bus, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Mist, and She Said. In addition to that, he had an appearance in the sixth season of The Good Fight, as well as episodes of shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Bojack Horseman, and Jackie Chan Adventures.
