The Lexus LBX is a premium B-SUV based on the Toyota Yaris Cross. In the name LBX, ‘L’ stands for ‘Lexus’, ‘B’, stands for B-segment, as it plays in the B-SUV segment, and ‘X’ means crossover.
It measures at 4,190mm long, 1,825mm wide and 1,560mm tall. This is intended to rival the Audi Q2, but, here’s the catch. Audi will be leaving the B-SUV segment when they finish making the Q2, but Lexus is joining the B-SUV segment. Maybe this could be the revival of the premium B-SUV for Europe…
Under the hood uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 3cyl engine, with electric motors. Total power output is 136PS and 186Nm of torque. Power is sent to either the front or all four wheels, but even if you get the AWD version, the power output is the same. This is more powerful than the Yaris Cross’ hybrid system, at 116PS and 120Nm of torque. The Lexus LBX isn’t fast, 0-100kmh in 9.2 seconds, but still, an improvement over the 11.6 seconds in the Yaris Cross.
As you can expect, the interior is far more premium than its Toyota counterpart. It has Lexus Connect system as standard, in the 9.8-inch centre display.
Trunk space is 332 litres in the Lexus, compared to 400 in the Yaris Cross, and 355 in the Audi Q2, so the Lexus LBX is far less practical than the Toyota or the Audi, thanks to a sloping roofline in the Lexus.
The Lexus LBX is expected to hit UK roads in March 2024. Reservations will commence in July this year, with UK price and specs being unveiled in October. Other markets where this will be available include EU countries, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Japan. It is possible it’ll also be available in Australia, New Zealand and probably some ASEAN / south Asian markets. But, it will not be sold in America, arguably one of Lexus’ most important markets.
