Rajon Rondo vs Chris Paul, the NBA fight that happened in the Lakers vs. Rockets game. But what the fight was and what it has led to might just have exposed Chris Paul and ruined his image. Yeah this happened. Spitgate, the fight, whatever you say. This was wild between Rondo and Paul. But it might have just uncovered a truth about Chris Paul and who he is.

Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, and Brandon Ingram all got suspended in a weird and sudden fight. You know it’s bad when Lance Stephenson is a peacemaker. Rajon Rondo came out and called Chris Paul a horrible teammate and that Paul is not the good boy everyone believes him to be and so I decided to look into that.

So yeah Rajon Rondo came out and called Chris Paul a horrible teammate and a horrible person. That doesn’t come as a surprise because they have a 10 year beef. First let’s look at the history between Rondo and Paul. Chris Paul edged out Rajon Rondo for the Team USA olympic team in 2008, the year Rajon Rondo and the Celtics won the NBA championship. In 2009, Paul and Rondo would exchange words on an on-court skirmish and Rondo would tell Paul that “I’ve got a ring, and you’re never gonna win one”. Damn, that’s just savage. Paul tried to go to the Celtics locker room to confront Rondo that night, hmmm. That’s interesting. Rondo said words, Paul came at him with actions. After this, Rondo said that he didn’t want to hear about Paul, talk about him, or anything in the press conference.

First of all, I just wanna say, Ingram, why did you have to throw that extra punch? I just don’t get it, just what? Now focusing on the Rondo and Paul interaction, while this slow motion shows that there is spit coming out of Rondo’s mouth, Rondo has a mouthguard. It’s hard to intentionally spit with a mouthguard in your mouth without spitting the whole mouthguard out so for Rondo to not just intentionally spit on Paul with a mouthguard but also sneakily do it would be crazy, unless it was just unintentional. Whatever happened next was a reaction of both players to the situation at hand. I do agree with Rondo on this that if Rondo was to spit on Chris Paul, Rondo would be more ready for a fight rather than having hands at the side of his waist. He even looks away! You can see Rondo only reacted when Chris Paul dug his fingernails into Rondo’s skin. Carmelo and Eric Gordon didn’t even react to Rondo’s supposed spit.

Rondo said that the NBA sided with the Paul over him and then Rondo began to attack Paul’s image, saying that he’s been a horrible teammate and just not the best of guys. Big baby Glen Davis, haven’t heard that name in a while, said that CP3 is a very bad teammate. Ryan Hollins also chimed in and said that Paul has some growing to do and that everything that glitters ain’t gold. That’s pretty deep considering it’s coming from Ryan Hollins who hasn’t been the best analyst.

So I decided to take a look back into the history of Chris Paul and man are there a lot. Remember last season when Chris Paul led a raid of Rockets teammates to the Clippers locker room through secret passageways. Chris Paul also was known to butt heads with Doc Rivers on the Clippers and add to their toxic culture. J.J. Reddick came out and said that the Clippers had a petty culture. Chris Paul didn’t help with that and was a demanding teammate. It’s why other teammates just haven’t come to the defense of Chris Paul and it’s why Deandre Jordan was leaving the first time in that whole house arrest situation. Like we say people like Lance and Rondo are troublemakers which is true, but then we ignore CP3? Oh yeah Chris Paul is one of the dirtiest players in the league. You know how everyone gets on Draymond Green for the kick. Well CP3 has been attacking groins since college. He got a one game suspension in college for literally hitting a man in the groin in college. He’s been doing it throughout his career and most recently he did this to KD. Paul was named one of the 9 dirtiest players in the NBA by complex, so why does he get away with all this?

Chris Paul has built his image up in such a way that we kinda gloss over all these things. Those Statefarm commercials have done wonders in portraying Chris Paul as a lovable guy although in reality, at least on his own teams, he’s been anything but that. And I mean who didn’t like Cliff Paul. Couple a highly successful ad campaign with great talent and that’s all that a lot of people see. I can’t say what type of person Chris Paul is outside the NBA. I mean he is the players association president and there haven’t been non NBA off the court incidents. But Rondo spit some truth. Chris Paul ain’t the angel that a lot of people think he is. He’s a troublemaker, and probably a bad teammate and we shouldn’t be passing over all that he’s done. Did Rondo intentionally spit? Is Chris Paul a bad teammate?
