When the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Evan Mobley 3rd overall in 2021, the team thought it was getting a unicorn.
Through almost three seasons, Mobley has proven he's a quality NBA player, but he hasn't shown the superstar potential many thought he had.
We did a deep dive study into top 3 picks over the last decade to see how many blossomed into stars by year three, how many were straight up busts, and how many still hadn't fully developed yet. Of the ones who hadn't developed, how many then turned into stars down the road?
This won't give us a definitive answer on Mobley's ceiling, but it should give us some historical context on the likelihood he still reaches his full potential.
