長壽東路口原是“第七甫水腳”，由光復路至德星路一段原是“長壽直街”（長壽直街南段和德星裡現在變成德星路），由此至帶 河路口（現為康王路）一段原是「玉器圩」。 長壽西路口至文昌路一段，是「永華坊」；近西邊一段，是「汝南洲」。
長壽路於1931年擴建，擴建時上述街巷開闢成馬路，馬路沿用「長壽」名稱，長壽直街原因附近有長壽寺而得名。 文化大革命時期東西兩段長壽路曾被命名為“曙光路”，後復名長壽路。
上西關湧的發源地在長壽西路和康王路交界處以北的位置。
道路兩旁商業興旺，長壽東路建有荔灣廣場；長壽西路則售賣玉器、首飾。 在1950年代初期，一群在長壽路一帶，受國共內戰影響的玉器商人，從廣州移居香港。 到了香港後都集中在油麻地廣東道附近開設玉器店鋪，多年後玉器店鋪林立，便成為了現今的甘肅街玉器市場。
由於地鐵長壽路站靠近上下九步行街，長壽路與寶華路、第十甫路、上下九形成商業圈。

The intersection of Changshou East Road was originally the "Seventh Fu Shuijiao", and the section from Guangfu Road to Dexing Road was originally "Changshou Zhi Street" (the southern section of Changshou Zhi Street and Dexing Lane are now Dexing Road). The section of Helukou (now Kangwang Road) was originally the "Jade Fair". The section from Changshou West Road to Wenchang Road is "Yonghuafang"; the section near the west is "Runanzhou".
Changshou Road was expanded in 1931. During the expansion, the above-mentioned streets and alleys were opened into a road. The name of the road was "Changshou". Changshou Straight Street was named after the Changshou Temple nearby. During the Cultural Revolution, the east and west sections of Changshou Road were once named "Shuguang Road" and later renamed Changshou Road.
The birthplace of Shangxi Guanyong is north of the junction of Changshou West Road and Kangwang Road.
Businesses are booming on both sides of the road. Liwan Plaza is built on Changshou East Road, while jade and jewelry are sold on Changshou West Road. In the early 1950s, a group of jade merchants in the Changshou Road area who were affected by the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party immigrated from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. After arriving in Hong Kong, they all concentrated on opening jade shops near Canton Road in Yau Ma Tei. Many years later, there were many jade shops and it became the current Gansu Street Jade Market.
Since the Changshou Road subway station is close to Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, Changshou Road forms a commercial circle with Baohua Road, Shishifu Road and Shangxiajiu.

Baohua Road was originally named Baohua Middle Road and Shiwufu. It was expanded into a road in the 1930s, and the word "Baohua" is still used as the road name.
In 1994, Metro Line 1 was built, and three entrances and exits were planned for the Changshou Road Metro Station on Baohua Road. At the same time, real estate development was started. Many old houses and shops in the area were demolished and rebuilt with more than 30 floors of Hengbaohua. Courtyards and other real estate were built on part of the land, and Dada sites were built to accommodate merchants and provide goods and services to the community (the Dada sites were later taken back and reserved for government redevelopment).
