Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, has called for calm following violent protests in the Joburg CBD yesterday. Residents from a block of flats on Nugget Street claim that police killed an innocent resident while carrying out an early morning drug raid. They say officers assaulted the victim after accusing him of hiding drugs. The angry community then protested, attacking officers and stoning SAPS vehicles. Police dispersed the protesters, and restored calm to the area.
