Coco had reportedly made an attempt on her life while she was at home on Sunday, according to a statement posted on Facebook and Instagram by Lee's sisters, Carol and Nancy Lee. Since then, she had been in a vegetative state, and she passed away on Wednesday at the Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong.

"With great sadness, we are here [to] break the most devastating news: Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years, but her condition had drastically deteriorated over the last few months," the sisters stated. "With great sadness, we are here [to] break the most devastating news." "Despite the fact that Coco sought professional assistance and did everything in her power to overcome her depression, the demon that resided within her ultimately triumphed."Lee, who received his education in both Hong Kong and the United States, achieved popularity in the 1990s in the Mandopop (pop music performed in the Chinese language) scene in Hong Kong before extending into the Cantonese and English music scenes.

"It is well known that Coco worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese," the sisters added. She was given the award for best original film song at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2001 for the Chinese version of the same song. She made a total of 21 albums, including 18 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 5 compilation albums. Lee was a dynamic performer in front of an audience and was rarely out of the news headlines. In 2011, she tied the knot with Bruce Rockowitz, a wealthy Canadian businessman, in an extravagant ceremony that became one of the most memorable events of the year. Former Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong-based supply chain company Li & Fung, Rockowitz is currently an investor.
