I think it’s really important what we tell ourselves in the pursuit of our best life and living out the best versions of ourselves, and I think we can actually shut down our momentum / our progress when we set ourselves up with the wrong framework or the wrong expectations.
I don't believe we can “be anything we want to be,” and the blind pursuit has left many people feeling unfulfilled or “less than.”
At the very least, comparison of your lot in life, of your day-to-day existence, of your body or your home, your job or your business, of your vacations, of your accomplishments - that comparison will kill your joy - but worse - that comparison and the “falling short” of it all will oftentimes kill the version of you that IS possible.
Can we be whatever we want to be? Whatever we wish to be? No, I don’t think so. But, there's better news.

In my late twenties I embarked on a totally different journey. I was determined to get out of debt. Between my husband and I, we had well over $100,000 in student loans and other small, miscellaneous debts – just over $130,000, actually. After reading a Dave Ramsey book, I focused on the goal with unrivaled intensity. We met, and surpassed, our goal in less than 2 years. Little did I know that the process of getting out of debt would teach me everything I needed to know to finally tackle my lifelong weight struggles. It’s true. The crazy parallels between paying off $130,000 and losing over 130 pounds are astonishing. Here’s what getting out of debt taught me about life and extreme weight loss.

To me, abstinence from some foods does seem so much easier than moderating my intake - especially with trigger foods like sugar, nut butters and other items on my list. But, sometimes my "food rules" send me spiraling into what today's guest calls the "What the Hell" effect.

These questions led me on a quest and that quest led me to Gretchen Rubin, the best-selling author, wife and mother of two.
I knew Gretchen already from her previous books; I read The Happiness Project years ago and I thought it was amazing. So when she came out with Better Than Before, her newest book, I picked up it up for myself.
I read Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives and I became a woman obsessed. I chased Gretchen down. I said, “Oh, I know you’re on every television channel in the world. I know you’re at the top of iTunes with your own podcast. I know that you are in extreme demand right now by every media outlet known to man, but could you maybe come talk to us? Because I believe you can change everybody’s lives who listens to this show that we do together.”

What Does *SANE Eating Mean, Anyway?
*SANE is an acronym for determining how healthful a food is for us. In short, *SANE foods are very high quality, healthful foods and inSANE foods are low quality, unhealthful foods. *SANE eating means focusing on nutrient-dense foods containing water, protein, fiber, and whole-food fats. It generally means avoiding sugar of all kinds, grains, highly processed oils, many fruits, and starchy foods.
