British finance minister Jeremy Hunt said on Thursday (February 15) the economy is "more resilient than most people predicted" and that the government had expected growth to be weaker while inflation was prioritised after data showed Britain's economy had entered a recession in the second half of 2023. Official data showed that gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 0.3% from the three months to December, having shrunk by 0.1% between July and September.
