Vinny and I have been on the road touring with headliner Drew Lynch, and we've gotten to know each other pretty well now. Vinny is a very talented and funny comedian and a helluva a guy. I had a great time getting to know Vinny better outside of tour - since this episode was recorded we shot a sketch together and played 3 theaters in GA. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor and having surgery in 2000, Vinny found an outlet for his experiences through stand up. He then became the face for Gilda’s Club in Pittsburgh, an organization started by Steve Martin and Gene Wilder for comedy legend Gilda Radner helping people dealing with cancer, their families and friends. Vinny quickly became a regular at the Pittsburgh Improv, and soon there after, moved to Los Angeles. In 2013 he started the live stand up comedy show “Socially Awkward” that is now featured every month at the famous Hollywood Improv Comedy Club and The Comedy Store.

Micah is an artist, storyteller, and executive coach. He is an Oregon native but spent most of the decades since the millennium living and working (and working and working) in Los Angeles, CA. Currently living in Texas in the hills near Lake Travis, but, like, in a house. Not actually in the hills like a wild man or a bear. Or a bear man. Anyway, Micah likes telling stories, and pictures are a great way to do that. With an emphasis on action, dark humor, and a dash of abstract silliness, he prefers getting the point across over rendering a pretty picture – but if the picture comes out pretty along the way, hey, that’s great.
He lives with his wife, who is a badass of interstellar measures, his son, Calvin, who is definitely an upgraded design from his own, and his daughter, Freya, who will doubtlessly usher in Ragnarok in the most adorable and smiley fashion.
In his spare time he’s working on stories, comics, cartoons, screenplays, and getting out into nature as often as possible. He wishes he were backpacking or sailing, but he’s probably standing at the bottom of a playground slide or changing a diaper. That’s fine, too.

She won. Duh.
Mav has featured for Whitney Cummings (HBO, Netflix), performed on the Margaret Cho Show at the Largo in Los Angeles, featured for comedian Ian Harvie (Amazon, Netflix) and headlined all over the country.
In addition to writing and performing, Mav has a long history of working with homeless youth in Los Angeles providing support and connection to services like therapy, housing, and medical care. In 2018, the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Virginia Beach, VA awarded Mav the Outstanding Contribution in the Fight Against Crime. Her work with the Commonwealth Attorney’s office not only secured the conviction of the criminal who assaulted her, but brought to light a gap in the case law regarding victims of sexual assault. This resulted in the Court of Appeals publishing new case law stating that, now under the law, “intimidation” and “emotional dominance” exerted by the defendant satisfies a conviction, making it (hopefully!) less intimidating for victims to come forward.
All in all, Mav is a badass, gender-bending goofball with a passion for standup, telling it like it is, social justice, and making people laugh.

We recorded this episode back in the heat of the summer. I met Ron for the first time the day we recorded but as our conversation progressed I felt as if I had known Ron forever. He's a student of the craft of comedy and it shows. Watch his "Dont tell Comedy" set on youtube and you'll see just how funny he is. Ron has had some great early successes in his career and I fully believe its because he has locked into the art form and can see comedy in 3D.

Fresh from his appearance on JRE last week we have Comedian Kurt Metzger. We chat about drill rap, Jay Z & Beyonce, and he drops a story about a WILD night in Canada with a football player, a couple of working girls and come narcotics. Lets just say holding hands isnt what it used to be. Kurt showed up smoking some weed and I invited him inside the studio while he was still smoking. Steve Furey is an L.A. based comedian who was recently passed as a paid regular at The World Famous Comedy Store and The Ice House Pasadena were he performs regularly. He can also be seen at Punch Line SF, Punch Line Sacramento, Laughs Unlimited, Cobb’s Theater in San Francisco, and Furey performs at clubs and casinos all over the country. He has performed with comics such as Nemr, Kyle Kinane, Natasha Leggero, Robin Williams, Bobby Lee, Eddie Pepitone, Joe Rogan, Theo Von, Bert Kreisher and Pablo Francisco. He just got off the Hot Summer Nights tour w Bert Kreisher which went to 14 sold out dive in theaters all around America. Alex Sivers is one of my oldest and dearest friends. We moved to California together as bandmates in Sept of 06, were roommates for the first year we lived here and have stayed pals thru all kinds of shenanigans. Very shortly after moving to LA, we became production assistants on commercial shoots and before you knew it Alex was one of the youngest producers of commercials in town. After the band broke up, Alex moved to Florida to have a couple kids with his wife. Long story long, his journey eventually brought him back to California. We continue to work together on various projects and jam from time to time. Sivers now plays drums in a 90's coverband when he's not running a successful advertising agency.
I debated whether or not to put this episode out, being that Alex is not a comedian but in the end it's a great chat with an old friend and I really hope you enjoy it. We'll get you back to regularly scheduled comedians later this week.

Daniel (@theehandydan) joins us this week. We touch on living in an RV, flipping houses, and life in Nashville. Dan and I get silly and no one is safe from his savage riffs. Ryan was recently passed at the comedy store as a paid regular, a feat coveted by anyone who has ever attempted stand up comedy. I went into this one with prewritten questions instead of the usual freeflow convo because if you're not careful he'll start interviewing you. I've been blessed with so many great sets of friends and these guys are no exception. We all found each other soon after moving to LA and it's been a tremendous support having theses guys to joke around with. You might not understand everything we say. I'm sure there are some inside jokes. We ran the show for almost 4 hours but after removing things that only we find funny, we landed at just over an hour.
