達悟作家夏曼·藍波安長年書寫海洋、記憶、神話、傳統與蘭嶼的變化。母語影響了他的敍述韻律，達悟自編吟唱的歌詞語法，更讓他寫作的文字如同詩歌一般，迥於慣用漢字的書寫者。
在達悟「美好的月份」，傳統上親友們會分享魚獲、農作物，男人們夜間群聚吟唱分享自己與海洋、大魚搏鬥的故事。在機動船逐漸取代拼板舟的年代，夏曼·藍波安堅持走進森林裡，以傳統方式取回木頭，親手打造自己的拼板舟，然後繼續出海、繼續透過寫作吟唱海洋之歌。
Syaman Rapongan is a Tao author who has written about the sea, memory, mythology, traditions, and a changing Orchid Island for many years. Although he prefers to write using Chinese characters, Rapongan is a distinctive author set apart by rhythmic narratives, attributed to the influence of his mother tongue, and poetry that follows the lyrical grammatical structure of songs written and sung by the men of the Tao tribe.
The Tao season of piyavehan is traditionally a time when friends and relatives share flying fish and crops; and when the men gather at night to sing about their relationship with the sea and their fishing tales. In an age where motorized boats have gradually replaced traditional tatala, Syaman Rapongan, insists on venturing into the forest, using traditional techniques to cut down trees, and building his own tatala by hand. Today, he continues to take his tatala out to sea and uses his writing to sing the songs of the sea.

#紀錄蘭嶼的攝影師
許多攝影師都曾經以獵奇或明信片式的拍攝手法記錄蘭嶼。攝影師王文彥則與蘭嶼交換時間，一次又一次地往返蘭嶼，透過生活在蘭嶼去認識蘭嶼，並透過鏡頭記錄下蘭嶼新舊交錯的變化。
他以一年52週為敍述架構，記錄報導式的攝影作品，佐以細膩又生動的文字，呈現外地人的好奇與在地人的思惟。攝影師沈昭良認為：「王文彥將是繼三木淳、王信、關曉榮和潘小俠之後，有可能透過影像與文字，全面書寫近代蘭嶼樣貌的後起之秀。」
Most photographers look to capture postcards or shots that eroticize Orchid Island; however, photographer, Wang Wenyen, had a different exchange with the island. He used his time living on Orchid Island across several trips to truly understand their way of life. His camera eventually succeeded in capturing intersections of the old and new on a changing Orchid Island.
He used the 52 weeks in a year as a narrative structure to record a piece of photojournalism. His detailed and vivid captions evoke the curiosity of outsiders and musings of the locals. Photographer SHEN Chao-Liang believes that “WANG Wenyen is a raising star who continues the legacy of Miki Yasuko, WANG Hsin, GUAN Xiao-rong, and PAN Hsiao Hsia by using his photography and captions to write a complete narrative about the contemporary face of Orchid Island.”
