Taiwu Children's Ancient Ballads Troupe
The Taiwu Children's Ancient Ballads Troupe is from the indigenous Paiwan tribe of the Taiwu village of southern Taiwan. Paiwan ballads have been passed down the generations as an oral tradition in the absence of written language. The Paiwan tribe's ancient tales, rituals, social structure, and cultural lifestyle have been illustrated and preserved entirely in their songs. Following a performance on the Japanese NHK network television program "Amazing Voice," the Taiwu Children's Ancient Ballads Troupe was voted one of the world's top five performance groups by the audience. In 2009, the group toured Luxembourg, Belgium, France, and Germany, and was received with verwhelming acclaim. A European critic praised, "Through these children's voices, I am taken to their land as I smell the fragrance of the earth and am refreshed by the breeze blowing through the valley!"
Daniel Ho
Daniel Ho's simple philosophy of presenting music with sincerity and artistry encompasses six consecutive GRAMMY Awards, number-one albums on national airplay charts, and top-ten albums on Billboard as a composer, performer, engineer, and producer. In 2011, his solo 'ukulele CD, Polani (Pure), was the first 'ukulele album in music history to receive a GRAMMY nomination. On piano the following year, he was nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Album for his CD, E Kahe Malie (Flowing Gently). Most recently, his album On A Gentle Island Breeze was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best World Music Album. A Honolulu native, Daniel moved to LA in the late '80s. He is a prodigy of the Grove School of Music, where he excelled in composition and film scoring. He was the leader and keyboardist of the acclaimed '90s contemporary jazz band, Kilauea. Daniel performs original songs in English and Hawaiian and is known for his versatility on `ukulele, slack key guitar, and piano.
